Does anyone know any good camping spots in Northern California?

I’m looking for a camp site to go fishing and camping along a river in Northern California. I’m planning to go with my girlfriend and 2 other couples and none of us have really gone camping before so it would be nice if it wasn’t too rugged and out there. We are from the bay area so we were thinking of someplace near Sacramento. The location is pretty flexible, I just don’t want to drive to the Oregeon border.
Lake shasta, Antlers resort. last visit there had a great time.
Check along the Sierra Foothills. The Merced River, the Toulumne River, the Stanislaus River, the Moklumne River, just to name a few are within 2 1/2 to 3 hours of the Bay area. If you search any of these and camping you should have plenty of options.
