Fishing Cape Canaveral during a launch?

I was thinking about going out there and doing some fishing and then realized there’s a launch tonight. It’d be cool to fish and catch the launch but I’m not really down with the giant crowds I hear go out there for those things. The place I plan on fishing is actually a little beach over a bridge on the way into the park(if any of you know what the heck I’m talking about) and there’s a little island in the middle of the water with a draw bridge in the distance.

Anyway, it seems like it would be a good place for people not wanting to go all the way into the park to hang back and congregate to watch the launch.

1. Do you know where I’m talking about?
2. Will it be ridiculously crowded?
3. Is fishing there pointless because of the crowds?
4. Do you have any other shore fishing ideas(salt or fresh) to still have a decent view of the launch?
I guess the place I’m thinking of is over Max Brewer Memorial Parkway by the boat ramp and pier.

gonna be a croud out there ! plus massive security

The launch was scrubbed due to a hydrogen leak. No launch tonight.

Yep, my mom just called me a little while ago saying no launch tonight, and I know exactly where you’re talking about, fished along there many times and never caught anything other than undersized seatrout, puffers, stingrays and catfish, but if that’s how you’d like to spend your time…

You can’t go much farther than that right now with security (they shut down the refuge for launches, so going out there’s out of the question unless you feel like going all the way up to Oak Hill and fishing the north side of Haulover Canal.

We were out driving around today looking at houses and it wasn’t quite 1:00 and there were already massive amounts of people out… if you want to do this, you need to come early and find somewhere that you can walk for any refreshments you don’t bring with you… now if you had a boat……….

Anyway, as I said, get out here early, no other way to do it, and give the crowds a bit of time to dissipate before you try to leave, it’s a madhouse… I know, I’ve lived with it all my life… (and hate it.)

Edit in response to Brandon W:

Me? Water temps? *wipes a tear from her eye from laughing so hard* Sure don’t, but if I get a chance tomorrow I’ll go down to the river and put my foot in and tell ya if it’s wade-able, shouldn’t be too far off from what it is at Haulover. I haven’t even wet a line since Valentine’s day, and I was right there at Parrish Park (which is where the questioner is talking about, I believe… btw, that little pier with the gazebo on it is shut down… someone probably fell in and threatened to sue the county or something… *mutter*), the trashfish were active, B stayed busy with 6 – 10 inch trout, I stayed busy with puffers and a stingray… hey, we got rid of the baby for a while and spent some time next to the water, what more can you really ask for? Anyway, if I find myself on that end of town tomorrow I’ll pop in at Captain Hooks and see if they’ve got water temps… I don’t think it should be too bad, we’ve had about a week of 80 degree air temps, and you know the water temp with it being as low as it is isn’t that far off, and boy is the water low right now…

Oh, and a little more for question #4 (speaking of low water levels):

If you’re feeling adventurous, you could always wade out to that island on the south side of Max Brewer, it’s usually no more than chest deep… but watch for actual watercrafts, they’re stupid when there’s a shuttle launch or a holiday or a tournament or… well, you get the point. Or you could wadefish just about anywhere, average depth for the entire lagoon is only about 6 and a half feet, and especially through the Titusville area if you’re not in the channel, you’re not in much more than waist deep water, this would also cut down on having to deal with the crowds, but I don’t reccomend doing so at night… hard enough to realize what an old barnacle-covered gator is during the day if you’re not paying close enough attention.

Anyway, I’ve recently been confirmed ADD, so sorry for exhibiting symptoms.

Yea I agree w/ gimme.. you wont be allowed in M.I rufuge and w/ the crowds you may want to hold off

Gimme.. do you know what the water temp is around Haulover right now? I want to head back down when I get an off week from Tourney’s here in the Big Bend.
