Musky vs. Fish Grips West Branch, Ohio 5/29/2010

We were fishing for Cats with cut shad. I was preparing to refresh my bait when my pole bent in half. I was able to bring this one to the surface and again found myself without a net. So I figured I would do a little product testing on the fish grips we use on catfish. Musky 1-Fish Grips 0

jack ass. I’m from Portage Co. FIRST you should know what a pike is if you have ever fished for anything bigger than a bluegill SECOND that’s a REAL STUPID WAY to try and get one in a boat. The pike of Ohio are in small populations and are not stocked. Unless you were gonna eat it you should realize that they are EXTREMELY fragile fish and should be caught and released carefully. If you’re afraid of fish with teeth then fish in lakes that don’t have them!
I would bet my life that fish is a pike. They look very similar but the lateral spots are a sure give away to identify a pike. The hybrid tiger muskie is the closest to a pike but it has vertical lines instead of small lateral spots. One hell of a fish though man!
@Xlander1000 I think they would work better on a less aggressive fish…big mistake trying to stick those in the mouth of a pike, musky or gar-otherwise we used them on cats and they worked fine. I think it is the back and forth head snap that broke them.
I am debating on whether I should try the fish grips so I am a little concerned at how easily they broke. Very nice fish!
That is a Pike Bro! Muskie to do not lateral spots like a pike, and are a different color, hell of a fish though bro! I have caught some nice ones out of West Branch! GOOD FISHIN’
@delclayman same
Nice Pike, I fish Westbranch all the time for muskies, take a look at my profile, muskygod1.
I will bet anyone $1000 that that fish is a Northern Pike. No DOUBT!!
that is a musky for sure nice catch
nice man i just caught a musky on leesville the other day
Nice fish man but deff…..PIke. not to argue you but a pike record is 43″ while the muskie is almost 52 the musky get so much bigger than the pike if only everyone wiould catch and release. theres no reason to eat those boney fish. either way be happy that you caught that
@linkavitchC This is a musky. The pike which is comon to Northern Ohio looks similar but is actually longer and more slender in appearance and has an elongated snout that islong and skinny while the musky is thicker in appearance and has a snout that is shorter and rounder on the bill end.
The lake is known as West Branch and carries an official name of Michael Kerwin Resovoir. It is located about 40 miles south and east of Cleveland.
Hope you enjoyed the video.
linkavitchC is correct that is a northern pike(Muskie’s little cousin) fun to catch though!! Good job.
thats a northern pike. where in ohio did u get it? a lake or river?
