Property OWNERS, do you see yourself living in a…?

…camper/motor home, car/van or tent with these steadily increasing property taxes? Would not a state/county consumption tax & reduction in county/state services & employees be a better situation for property owners, than moving into a step van with your family?
I mean PRIVATELY owned property is just that, PRIVATE! Why are American’s even letting themselves be taxed on THEIR private property? Like property owners do all the purchasing/financing, upkeep & pay the insurance on THEIR property, why pay taxes on YOUR own “little” country?
What’s next, tax ya on upkeep & remodeling your OWN dwelling, geezh!

In Texas there is a homesteading provision, which means that taxes on your primary residence is very low. And if you are over 65 and/or disabled, they are even lower.

Unlike in Connecticut where you are taxed darn near to death.

    CT: 6 room colonial – assessed at $100,000 – taxes are 3500 + a year!
TX: 5 Acres with 3 houses – assessed at$130,000 (this is not a primary residence 1300 a year. If this was my home taxes would be under $300.

    BIG difference

I have no idea what you are talking about. Nobody is going to take the house off your property and give you a camper to sleep in. ∠°)

I think that here in Alabama our taxes are kinda high. I have a homestead exemption and my taxes are still $650.00 for home and 3 acres. We also pay a city tax and state tax. We also have to pay for permits if we want to do any new additions or remodeling to our property. We are truely taxed to death. Looking for somewhere else to move when i finish school. And i have to admit….have thought about getting a motor home and traveling abit….would definately be cheaper.

True, it is a shame that we have to pay bills, but it is part of being a responsible adult. The same goes for paying taxes. Replace the word “taxes” with “services”. We pay for services such as: police, fire protection, roads, public schools, county health services including restaurant health inspections, city and county government including zoning regulations, etc, etc. It is a difficult time for many in this country, not to mention the rest of the world, to pay their property taxes, particularly since many have lost their jobs and above average number of foreclosures in certain parts of the country where property values had skyrocketed prior to the housing bubble bursting. Unfortunately, municiple governments don’t always keep up with the falling of property values in updating their tax assessments. Plus, city, county, and state governments still need the funds to continue to provide the services we have grown to expect. Even if the value of our properties have fallen, our need for publicly provided services have not fallen. I read the note from the young lady in Alabama who said her property tax was high, around $600. Mine is twice hers is, and I don’t have 3 acres, just a small city lot with a house on it. And it is a struggle to pay my property tax, too. Yes, we are all in the same boat.

YOU ARE TAXED ON REMODELING YOUR HOME

It’s called a building permit. You have to have one from the county even if you live in a rural area!!

Ad Valourm tax has been around since 1950, to pay for school’s. If every renter and appartment dweller had to pay tax, believe me it would change.
