To convert my van into a RV camper…?
by admin on Friday, October 8th, 2010 | 3 Comments
I want to put a toilet and electric heat into my van, that can hook up to water and septic at a campground that has water, electric and septic hook ups. It is a stock work van for the most part now… Where can I find online the vendor that can guide me through the set up, and provide me with the parts needed? Thanks!
Peter

I don’t know where you’re at, but here is a site that may help.

Any RV dealership with a parts/service department will be able to help you.
That being said, I do not know what type of Van you have and how much money you want to spend. For the electric system and an electric heater to work you will need to install a converter. Remember, your car runs on 12V and the campground hook-ups will provide 110V.
About the water/sewer system, if you want a sink with running water and a flush toilet, that may be more difficult. In addition to the pipes/hoses that have to be installed you will need a water pump as well.
If you do not want a sink but just a toilet a cheap solution would be a portable toilet, or PortaPotti. They are available at any store that sells camping equipment (WalMart as well).
The cheap version for heat would be to run a regular electrical extension cord through a slightly open window and plug in an electric
heater (WalMart again).
As I said before, it all depends on how much you want to/are able to spend.
Camping world is an option. You will need a lot of stuff to do a complete conversion from scratch I would have started the opposite way buying an older camper van and just upgrading it to where I wanted it to be there are so many on the market right now for really cheap
Also look into the Yahoo groups section you will find several different groups that do just what you are planning to do I joined the Toyota Camper group and several people have uploaded pics of new toyota trucks and vans converted to campers
