Because the scent can attract bears. Also, Justin Bieber music makes bears crazy. Don’t bring any.

I go to Girl Scout camp all the time and they say the same thing, it’s because you don’t know who is allergic to those types of stuff you know? So it would be dangerous to spray it on, and then whoever is beside you to smell it and start having a seizure, you know?
Why he would say to not bring deodorant though? I don’t know why, I would say BRING THAT because you will be very smelly! Also don’t bring anything valuable, of course. I mean, I still bring my iPhone to camp though
But you DEFINANTLY don’t want to bring a heavy towel. They take FOREVER to dry, bring a really thin one, or a “Shamee” instead. Have fun!

Scented items attract wildlife. Everything from flies and bees to bears and mountain lions (given, that’s the wildlife here in central CA – I don’t know your region). Leave the perfume at home and use unscented deodorants. And most importantly, don’t keep *any* food in your tent. Bears can smell food even if it’s in factory sealed plastic.

As you now know, scented products will attract insects and wildlife. Don’t try to secretly stash snacks in your tent, the smell of food will also attract animals and a hungry bear is dangerous. When it’s time to put food away, put it where bears can’t get to it. Don’t take fancy clothes, shoes with heels, and save the ugg boots for another occasion, the are not for camping outdoors. Flip flop aren’t suitable for hiking, but they are fine for the beach and in the water. Sneakers are fine for most other uses. Your concern shouldn’t be looking cute, it should be about dressing appropriate and comfortably for the surroundings. Don’t bother with make-up either. Mosquitoes and dear flies aren’t impressed by mascara. The best thing to bring is an open mind and a willingness to try new things. Don’t be the stuck up girl who won’t try anything or the scardey cat who is too afraid, be the one who likes to have fun and tries everything.

Do not bring electronics! You have them for the other 99.9% of the time and they take your attention away from the outdoors.
The reason you shouldn’t bring scented deodorant/perfume/soap is that it attracts animals and bugs (and you won’t want spiders crawling on your face in the middle of the night). Also, most perfume/hairspray is explosive and very dangerous near campfires. Also, bringing any sort of aerosol can isn’t smart, because they can turn into frag grenades.

You dont want to be attracting any other creatures to your location while camping. The main rules are no food in the tent, Don’t leave food or garbage around, and try to keep your toiletries IE toothpaste and stuff out of your tent as a bear can pick up the sent of toothpaste from about a km away.
The main thing is BE SAFE AND USE COMMON SENSE and you will have a great time.
