What can I do to keep my dog from getting carsick?
ByShe’s 5 months old and gets sick just about every time we have to travel with her. We are taking her camping this week and we’ll be driving on lots of curvy roads. Are there any medications I can give her to keep her from getting sick?

take her on a long walk before you leave on the trip to wear her out, and then she’ll fall asleep. and also make sure that she’s in a spot where she can see the road ahead, and that shuld help too

my dog gets car sick too and it’s such a pain. We decided that we’d just let her ride in a kennel so that we wouldn’t get the ‘sickness’ in the car and it would be easier to clean up. Turns on that whenever she rides in the kennel she doesn’t get sick. she just curls up and sleeps.
I’ve also heard of people giving their dog motion-sickness medicine that are for people. this didn’t work for me, but i know people it has worked for. however, since your dog is so young just be cautious of the dosage that you give it.
If none of this works or your still not sure, just call up to the vet and they can give you a couple suggestions over the phone.

break up a tums chewable in her food that morning, do not feed her 2 hours b4 leaving for your trip, it is dangerous if she does throw up food that she could ingest some into her lungs. try holding her on your lap instead of on the seat or crate. hills are the worse for their young sensitive stomachs. it is usually worse when the heat levels are up for them getting sick. i travel a lot with my french bully pups and i found if i don’t let them eat b4 we go they do better but still throw up water sometimes, good luck

My vet said we could give our dog Dramamine for carsickness, but it didn’t work. We don’t feed her before car rides so mostly she just drools all over the place now.
The only thing that has ever worked for her is one time my boyfriend bought her a hamburger and let her eat it in the car. She stopped drooling immediately and was fine the rest of the ride. I know it makes no sense, but I think it’s because she was too distracted by her love of the hamburger to be worried about the car ride.
