I guess it depends on where you are going camping(i.e campgrounds, primitive camping, summer camp, etc), the age of the teen and what they are going to be doing while camping? These are probably good starting points to ask yourself.

If all they teen is going to be doing is camping (assuming they are at a campground). I would suggest the following:
    - tent
    - sleeping bag and pillow (determine the type depending on the weather you are going to be camping in)
    - water
    - non-perishable food items
    - toothbrush,toothpaste and deodorant
    - hand sanitizer
    - first aid kit (any necessary medications)
    - change of clothes
    - a deck of cards

I don’t know your specific situation but this is the bare necessities and should be fine for three days.

That depends on what type of camping you will be doing. If it is in a camp ground… then most teens take their electronics, books, make up, toiletres and all with them. If it is a backpacking trip or a more rugged camping trip you may want to leave that stuff at home to make room for essentials.

A typical teen(girl) pretty much takes everything, or everything that will fit haha
And a typical teen(male) takes only the stuff they need and maybe less. oh and probably a pocket knife because they like to be destructive.

Boy Scout Troop 733 Necessities: 2 days worth of clothes and twice as many socks, snacks, knife, bug spray, sleeping bag, comfort mat, and tent.

Luxuries: comb, toothbrush, rain coat, anything else you take for granted
