What does it take for a doomsday prophecy to be taken seriously?

People probably create these things everyday, whether as a joke or not, so why would this Camping chap be taken seriously? Obviously nothing is going to happen, so why all the sensationalism with this of all predictions?

I feel there is a lot of trolling/sarcasm feeding the predictions: some dumb people take it seriously.

And it should only be taken seriously from someone who has been right before.
