What type of bicycle should a senior look for …just for casual riding on easy trails or to take when camping?

would like something light and easy to manage so we can load it on a pickup. Also do not want to spend a fortune now, just want to see if or how often we actually use it. Any suggestions on type or what we should look for in a bike.

You want a comfort or hybrid bike from a bike shop. Bikes come in different sizes so they are comfortable to ride. I see a lot of people on rail trails that have retired and ride the trails for exercise and fun. Google ” bike shops + your zip ” you will get a map with all of the local bike shops on it. Stay away from department store bikes they are poor quality and heavy.

Hover over the word Townie. This will explain what you need to know.

    Best.

    Giant Sedona
    Specialized Expedition
    Trek Navigator
    Cannondale Adventure 3 26″

All of these are the same type of bike — designed for comfort, intended for pavement and more than capable of handing light off-road trails. The wheels are 26 inches (like a mountain bike) and the tires are smooth enough for pavement but wide enough to provide stability off-road.

Unlike a mountain bike, these bikes emphasize comfort first. Your riding position will be more upright than a road or mountain bike, meaning less stress on the back, shoulders, arms and hands. Because of this position, you’ll notice they all have a large, comfy saddle.

It should be noted that the first three bike listed come in different performance levels, but the base models are all good quality.

    Hope that helps!
