On April 4th I saw a car on auto trader in van nuys. it was a 05 chevy cobalt and i went to the dealer that same day to look at it because i wanted to buy it. i got there in the night and i test drove it and it was about 8 in the night and the dealer told me that i would have to pick it up the next day because he had o fix a sensor on it, so i thought tat was fine, but he said to leave him a 500 dollar deposit to make sure i would buy it. the next day i went and i paid him 5,800 cash he said that the price for the car was 5000 adn the rest were fees and taxes. well as i was signing my contract i see that it said pull price paid in cash 5300. soi asked the receptionist who was hading me the paper work why it said 5300 if i gave them 5800 and she said that the taxes werent included so i figured she was telling me the truth. then i asked to have the car fax and she said there systems were down so i made sure i got a warranty paper since it said there was a 30 day warranty. i also asked for a pink slip andshe told me that they were gonna send the paper work to sacramento and i would be getting my registration on mail. i didnt think anything bad from it because i trusted them. well after getting on the road back home( i live 2 hours away) i stooped in Castaic to pump gas. afer i turned the car back on i notice it turned off and started up again on its own but i thought well maybe it does that on its own since its a newer model.( i know that sounds kinda dumb but i dont know anything about cars what so ever. ) after i got home and my dad saw the car he told me that the key they gave me was a copy not an original key and that the key wouldnt be able to open the doors if locked. so i called the guy and he told me he didnt know why. then later on on tuesday, a day after i bought the car, the engine light on the dash board turned on. so i called the dealer again and he told me he didnt know why and that he sold me the car AS IS and i tld him i had the warranty paper. it was a 30 day or 1000 miles warranty. 50% for motor and 50% for transmisson. then he was just kinda blowing me off. i tld him i wouyld take the car to a mechaninc and if the car had problems he would pay for it and he said he wasnt gonna pay for something he couldnt see and i said that wasnt a aproblem that i would take the car to him. so that day i took it to a local mechanic in my town and it ended up being that the problems were the catalytic converter and some fans in the motor and the key switch. he told me the estimate would be aroung 900 dls. so i called the dealer emedietly and no answer i called the next day aswell about 10 times and still no answer. so on Friday April 8, just 4 days after buying my car i decided to drive up there and make them look at the car and fix the problems well when i got there the dealersgip was GONE!. there were nomorecars no people no nothing! I was so mad, sad. i didnt know what to so so i went to the LAPD and they sent me to consumer affairs and they gave me a number to the dmv investigators and i sent a complaint form with all the paper work which was really only the contract i was given and some little sticker to put on my window . the thing is that the 30 days werent up yet but i had already made 2 trips to Van Nuys trying to contact them or find them. that was about 3 weeks ago and since i hadnt heard anything from them i went to the dmv today to see if they had some info to give me. they didnt have much to tell me but to wait for investifgations to call me, then i asked her under whos name was my car under then she told me some dealer or something like that and if i would want the registration i would need signatures from previous owners and i would have topay 934 dollars for the registration because they hadnt paid the tas in about 2 yers. i halready fixed the repairs to my car and i have no money and no job =( im a college student whho saved up for a car and now i have nothing and no job! How am i gonna pay that.Im always sad and worried, i cant even sleep thinking of this. If they find the owner of the dealer, CAN I SUE HIM? WILL I WIN? PLEASE HELP ME IM SO LOST AND I DNT KNOW WHERE TO GO FROM HERE!

Ok first off hello and how are ya my name is Ricky. I recently bought my wife a 2001 L300 V6 from HELL straight from the devil him self. We have had the car for about 5 months now paying full coverage insurance and the 300$ car payments on it…it has now ran since we got it home.

Now on to the fun stuff.(sarcasm)
Ok so first off once we bought the car, mind you I know nothing about cars at all im more tec savvy I took it too a mechanic and had him look at it because the throttle was a little sluggish so he replaced the Throttle Control Motor. After that we took the car home and it ran great well i went to take it to work the next morning and the weirdest thing happened. If I had the head lights on and just tapped the breaks instantly the throttle would be unresponsive but once i turned thee head lights off the throttle came back and all was good as long as i wasn’t driving at night and did not need the head lights. So after some talking, forum reading and troubleshooting I Fixed it : ). I disconnected the tail lights and wallah i could have the lights on AND have throttle now after that I connected the lights back and…..now the tail lights wont come on. Now when the head lights are on the tail lights come on just when i press the breaks they don’t get brighter to signal im stopping.

Ive gotten ideas from people saying BCM/Loose ground/short I just don’t have the money to pick one, from what ive heard trying to find a short/nick in a wire could take days and the BCM is well i don’t have to tell you guys a lot of money but if I had a strong opinion from experts on what it could be I could afford it.

Please HELP……

I looked at a used car today (’95 Buick Lesabre) that I am seriously considering buying. My father came with me, and claims he thinks he may have smelled burning trans fluid. I didn’t smell anything, and the motor ran/drove like a dream, even better than my last beloved Buick. It didn’t slip at all or anything. There were no puddles of anything under where the car was parked. The oil was a little dirty and a quart low, it needed some fluids but other than that all looked and sounded normal. The car has 140,000 miles on it and he’s asking for $1100. That’s kind of beside the point, but anyways I decided I’m going to offer 900, because it also has a few cosmetic problems which should be repaired or they could cause further damage, and if he doesn’t take it then I’m going to pass. Because for all I know, this transmission is going to go out when I get it home. (I don’t expect it to, in my experience a well-maintained Buick’s trans can go forever) BUT STILL, I mean the car’s a ’95 with high miles, it really COULD go at any minute. ANYWHO, my real question which needs answering is this: what would cause you to smell transmission fluid? I smoke cigs and my dad doesn’t, so chances are, he knows what he’s smelling. What could this possible mean for this car???
No, I’m not sure if it’s not just leaking onto something and burning. That crossed my mind, too, that it possible just dripped somewhere. Car was not smoking at all, not one iota of smoke (to answer your questions)

After I failed an emission test It said that I have a blocked EGR passage, faulty EGR valve, etc…Now I was driving for two weeks and I noticed my tail pipe was blowing smoke and it was smoke from under the hood and my check oil light came on. Oil was leaking out profusely and I had oil all over my engine and motor.I took it to a mechanic and they said it was a oil pan sensor leak and they fixed it. Well when I took it home I noticed it was smoking a bit and I thought nothing of it cus’ they had to clean the engine because it was so much oil so I thought that was just excess oil burning off and it was ok. Well I drove it for a week no problem just waiting for my vacation so I can get the rest of the damage repaired and then my check coolant light came on. So I put some anti-freeze in the car and I spilled a little bit. Then after that my car was smoking from my passenger side right under the hood. I stopped and noticed anti-freeze(coolant) was splattered on the top of my engine and dripping onto my timing belts right by my alternator. And a little bit was dripping on the ground. Between my timing belt and alternator it was smoking and I noticed lil drips of oil spluttering as well again on my engine. I put some more antifreeze in it after my last stop and that seemed to make it smoke more than ever. When I blow my heater I can smell anti-freeze a bit but after a while the smell is gone. My car isn’t overheating at all which is strange and my car is filled with oil. When I drive it’s fine, no idle movements, the heat is still warm and my tailpipe isn’t smoking. Also the coolant is not bubbling either. I have a 2000 Chevy Malibu 4.3 engine. I have no problem paying to fix it but I don’t trust mechanics because I think they are trying to sabatoge me. It’s like they are always telling me it’s one thing and then I keep having to fix things on this car every 3-6 months! Does anyone based on the information I presented think they have an “accurate” opinion as to what my problem may be?
