I don’t want one liners like “patio furniture”, nor crude and sexually explicit jokes. I want a good story with a good punch line. Like the following, but new, a different one. This was my joke from last year.

At a bar, there was one Irishman, already three sheets to the wind, who walked up to another Irishman, who wasn’t feeling any pain either, and said, “Would ye be standing a fellow country man to drink.”

“To be sure,” says the other, “Let’s drink to old Erin.”

They down their shots, which the Bartender refilled.

“Now where in that fair land do ye hail from?

“I’m from the county o’ Cork.”

“The divil ye say, I’m from Cork, too!”

And so they drink to Cork and the glasses are refilled.

“And where did ye go to school now?”

“Why I went to St. Mary’s.”

“Saints be praised! That’s where I went, too.”

So they drink to St. Mary’s and the barkeep refills the shots.

“And what year did ye graduate?”

“That’d be 19 and 62.”

“No! If yer not spinning me some blarney, that’s the very year I graduated, too!”

Drink and refill, hooting and hollering, back slapping as I waked in and asked the bartender what the heck was going on.

“Not much,” said the Barman, “Just the O’Malley twins getting drunk again.”

. . . on my neighbors before I move?

DETAILS:
I have some of the world’s loudest and most obnoxious neighbors. Everything from parties lasting from 11 p.m.-8 a.m., to toddlers playing on the patios at midnight on weekdays, to the guy upstairs having sex in a squeaky bed to 3 Doors Down’s “Superman,” to the guy downstairs blasting WoW with his window open, to the college-age kids playing beer pong a few units over, to the guy with the nice patio furniture dragging it around at 2 in the morning. I WISH I was making at least some of that up, but it’s all true and also only a snapshot of what I’ve lived with for over 2 years because the rent has been cheap.

Well, I’m finally moving in less than 2 weeks, and I decided tonight that I’m going to get people back, and I’m looking for ideas. I want to start with a reminder that I don’t want them to know it’s me, because they don’t know how they’ve effected me directly (save the guy upstairs), so I just want to be obnoxious back as anonymously as possible.

My first thought was banging pots and pans together for 2-3 minute stretches every half hour from 12-3 on my last night here . . . but I feel that’s not quite good enough. Blasting my own music (which, trust me, I can DO) seems too simple. So I’m wanting to tap into the sick minds of the Yahoo! Answers community for some more options. What have you got?

(and I’m being completely serious–if I get a good idea, I’ll probably go through with it, so give me good ones, not joke ones)
No hoitey-toitey moral lessons, okay? I’m going to have some fun.

And we all live on the back side of the building, which has over 70 units anyway, so I have no way of knowing which cars are theirs.
Karma’s BS. Great example: look up the names Max Blanck and Isaac Harris.

Is this seriously all I’m going to get? A couple snotty faux-philosophers and an 80′s teen movie prank? I’m very disappointed.

Maybe an airhorn at 1.
John: I’ve actually called the police many times. The problem is our building has a lobby door which I can buzz someone into, but then the elevator and stair rooms are locked, so I have to go downstairs and let the person in. Or prop the door open, but that’s not wise in this neighborhood. I’d be willing to go get the door for the police, but they’ve not shown up when I’ve called . . . ever. My building must be on some “don’t bother” list.

I’m still thinking airhorn.
Terri: I like the spin you’re putting on that . . .
Psy Chic . . . I like it! I like it twice!

We dont want people sitting down stewing in the heat and have decided on a standup cocktail reception. It’ll be on the verandah and part of the pool patio. 40 guests Question is id like to set up a couple of bar tables, just a few so people can sit down , how many would i hire? I was thinking of dragging out my inlaws white cane patio furniture and making a lounge area? Is this a good idea also. We’ll be stringing up a white tarp for extra shade too.
Any links or idea’s or layout would be wonderful thankyou.

We have been having issues with our neighbors below us ever since they moved in over a year ago. Every night we can hear their tv over ours. We can hear the wife screaming and yelling at the husband on a daily basis. We can hear every door they slam, and when they put away the dishes. We can hear everything! This isn’t really the problem though…the problem is that every time they hear a noise from us, they call the police or the apartment manager on us! I have a 3 year old daughter and a 6 month old puppy. I am a stay at home mom and I’m pretty sure the lady downstairs doesn’t work either. So when my daughter runs around during the day or even if the dog walks from the living room back to the bedrooms, the lady downstairs freaks out and calls on us. We were having an issue with our dog barking for hours while we were gone. When we first got the dog, we asked them downstairs to please let us know if they can hear her. Well they never let us know. They started calling the cops and the apartment on us 10x a day on the dog. If they had just come to us first, the problem could have been fixed. We have her barking under control now, I try my best to be as quiet as possible during the day, and yet she still finds reasons to complain. Now she’s making up lies saying that I don’t clean up my dog’s poop outside-which is completely untrue, because before we got the dog I was always upset that there was always dog poop from other dogs in the yard and my daughter couldnt play out there. I wouldn’t do that. She also said that we let our dog deficate and urinate on her patio furniture…??? NO!!! Never happened, our dog has never been on their patio, or even on the balcony above theirs. We contacted the office because I am not going to tolerate someone lying about us. The apartment seems to want to just stay out of it. How can I work this out with her? We tried to go down and talk to her about it, but she wouldn’t answer her door. Any advice? I feel like since we tolerate all the noises they make, they should tolerate ours. It’s not as if we have parties, or our music or tv up (like they do)…What’s their deal?!

I live on a military base, and have so for over two years now. Everything has always been perfect until a few months ago when I got all new neighbors. A friend that I have known for years moved in next door, and a few people as well. The girl that I have known is not the most organized. She has three children along with my other neighbor and they have destroyed the outside area. Their children ruined my patio furniture by ripping off the fabric, and my friend throws her cigarette butts all over in the grass…it’s gross. Now I also have people above me who are heavily smoking inside and it’s making my apartment smell like smoke, and I have a brand new baby. I hate this because I like to keep to myself, and I don’t want to complain. However, I just don’t think it’s fair that I should live in a place that is this nasty. Plus, the girl that i have known lets her kids run outside without watching them so I can never just go outside with my dogs or baby and relax…she literally keeps her back door open so her kids can run freely outside whenever they want (i caught one of her sons flooding the back patio with my hose the other night)..

What should I do?

*Also, there is new housing in the process of being built but even if I move there I will most likely have the same neighbors.
How do I complain in a good way? I don’t want to be annoying..I want to be taken seriously.
Don’t feel like moving just because we have waiting now for 2 years for this new housing, and I would hate to just let that go.

I’m having thanksgiving at my new Condo and living on the 21st floor, my family is worried about having small children (ages 1-6) over due to the worry of climbing on patio furniture and falling over the edge. I need some assistance with ideas on childproofing the balcony. Basically moving the patio furniture is out of the question due to the fact that It’s not that large of a condo, and people will be outside at almost all times..

Keeping the doors locked might sound like a good idea, but they are kids and they can get to the locks if they are lucky.

Saying being responsible adults and watching the children might be a sound answer but then again they are kids, and during an event with lots of people it’s hard to always have someone watching the kids (we’re talking 5 to 6 1-6year olds) so that’s a lot of children to watch over.

They installed a new roof on my apartment building this week. In the process they destroyed my patio furniture and my sons bike with dirt falling from the roof onto my patio. Couldn’t they have put up something to avoid that from happening. None the less I cleaned it all up. The next day it was the same so I figured I would have to wait till they were fully done to get my patio livable again. Today when I got home I noticed that in my kitchen where I have a brand new glass top stove they destroyed my stove with rocks and black dust that was seemingly falling down the vent pipe from the roof. Again shouldn’t they have put something up to prevent this? I went into both of my bathrooms which also have vents connected to the roof and they are the same. They are covered in rocks and black dust.
My question is what should I do? I rent here and I know my manager who thinks he owns the building and makes up his own rules isn’t going to do anything much about it. Is it legal for them to get my house filthy and my patio ruined because they were putting up a new roof? I did everything in my power to avoid this. I closed all of my windows 24 hours a day even in this heat. I parked my car across the street so it wouldn’t get dirty from it and yet they have gotten my kitchen, patio, and 2 bathrooms totally dirty to the point where I am going to have to move my stove to clean etc. And even when I clean it there is still black stuff in the cracks on the new stove making it look dirty. Please help. I believe they should clean this mess.

I asked this before but I got a second notice with my lease attached so I have more details. I have put up a bamboo privacy screen around my patio. I received a notice to take it down. My lease states “Please do not shake or hang rugs, towels and clothing from windows. Do not put plants or other items on balcony or patio walls. If your balcony or patio is visible from outside your Residence, do not keep anything on it other than patio furniture.” My bamboo privacy screening is what I consider patio furniture, its a crafted wooden structure to provide privacy on my patio. It is not physically attached to the outer walls, but rather dug into the dirt for support. It looks very nice, I’m not sure why they’re being so critical of this but does it sound like I am in the right? Would you consider the screening to be patio furniture? What would a lawyer think? I am fond of my patio and I like my privacy…all sorts of people are driving in and out and I’d be in plain view.
