Deck Stain – Lap Lines – Help!?

Posted by: | Comments (2)

First time staining a deck today and we have some lap lines. We now know the mistakes we made and how to do it right next time, but is there anything we can do to get rid of the lap lines? We have one “square” in particular that looks bad. Would restaining the areas that don’t look bad make it better?

I really don’t want to sand and restain. So if that’s the only option, I’ll be strategically placing our patio furniture, lol!
We used a semi-transparent, oil-based ceder color stain.

Salt water or chlorine pool?

Posted by: | Comments (9)

We want to build an inground pool, but we aren’t sure whether to go with a chlorine or salt water system. We have heard a lot of pros and cons regarding salt water systems, but wanted to know from someone who has their pool for several years to see if they had problems with corrosion of stone, pool parts, &/or patio furniture or other outdoor items made from aluminum or stainless steel. Also, does anyone know anything about the NOGSYS filtration systems?

I moved in with him 3 months ago, beautiful home, and am dying to decorate. Nothing crazy, just some basics – dining room table, outdoor patio set, desk, etc. But every time I bring this up he reminds me that he just bought a new bedroom set and living room set for us and that it was really expensive. Then he reminds me that he bought our house along with our place in the mountains. This is all true, but it doesn’t mean we no longer need a dining room table. We’re in our 30s… it’s reasonable to want a dining room table so we can have guests over.

So today I decided to jump on looking at the furniture on my own and found some stuff I loved at Crate & Barrel. When I sent him the links he got all funky about it and said it was really expensive. So then I went to Cost Plus which is WAY cheaper and still he was acting like I was asking him to buy me a Porsche or something. So I offered to pay for these things, but he said he doesn’t feel comfortable with that since I make so much less $ than him.

So what should I do? Every time I bring this up he gets in a bad mood.

Our landlord is requesting access to our apartment to “upgrade the electrical subpanel.” We live in California, where there is a 24 hour notice to enter, which they have complied with. As part of the notice, they have requested that we move furniture and other things that may block access to the work area. One of the areas they have requested access to is the storage closet on our patio, which is filled to the brim. The request is also asking for access to an area that would require moving a TV stand and A LOT of A/V equipment. My question is what is our requirement in order to legally fulfill our end of the lease. It seems pretty unreasonable to request the movement of all this furniture and belongings. Moving the A/V equipment will require a minimum two hour commitment, by my estimation. Also, where are we to put all the stuff from the storage closet for two days while the work is scheduled to be done?

What are the bugs in my backyard?

Posted by: | Comments (5)

The bugs look sort of like bee’s but are completely black (no yellow whatsoever) . They are getting into the crevices of our furniture on our back patio and leave a yellow like dirt behind. We recently planted a honey suckle and we haven’t noticed them until this year. If it helps we also have a small pond.

I am shopping for new deck chairs. I see now a lot of sites are selling outside furniture made from recycled poly lumber. It is recycled plastic I guess. I’m wondering if the “lumber” is as durable as they say. It costs more but says it is very durable and maintenance free. So it might be worth it? Anyone have patio furniture made of this? What do you think? The chairs I’m looking at are at www.OutdoorDeckStuff.com. They have tons of colors so I’m very tempted!
Thanks!

we had pretty bad storms here last night and had some patio furniture blown around. this morning my 3 year old was looking out the back window and out of no where just shook her head and said “March….in like a lion, out like a lamb”…LOL

Where do kids get this stuff? I know I’ve used that phrase before but probably not since last march and I doubt she remembers something from that long ago.

Do your kids ever say or do things and you have no idea where they learned them?

example: craigslist. is it possible to import certain searches with special keywords to another website? like if I was searching for a specific patio furniture piece… could a page be created to import an ad once it’s created (or email somebody)
