We just sold our 1991 motorhome and we were very honest with the issues that were related to it. They came and gave us a bank drawn check and our bank verified funds, then we went to the DMV with them and after they left us it broke down and now they’re threatening us with stopping payment on the check, etc. What are our rights? It’s totally registered to them now. And he’s saying that’s the reason the check was written like it was…not certified…so there’d be a 3 day grace period in case anything went wrong with the rv. Can you help? We don’t know where to turn.
I need to add that the check was made out to me, my husband, and the buyer. We all signed it and then deposited it in my account. Therefore we can not take the check to their bank and cash it. And now the buyer is threatening to stop payment on the check becaust the rv broke after he took possesion of it. There were no warranties offered by us or anyone else and they never had an independent mechanic look at it. Again, we were very honest with the issues that the rv has…but it has been sitting in storage since October…we have not driven it at all since we parked it in storage.

Your uncle died last year and left you money in his will. You are to receive $70,000 three years from today (i.e., in time 3).
(a) What is the value of the inheritance today (in time 0) if the appropriate discount rate is 4% and you compound annually?
70,000/((1.04)^3)=62229.75
(b) If you invest the money when you receive it in time 3, how much will it grow to 25 years from today (i.e., in time 25) if you earn 4% each year?
70000+(1.04)^25= 186608.54
3. Your neighbor is buying a new recreational vehicle (RV). He has the following options to finance the RV:
I. Pays $42,000 today (in time 0)
II. Buy under a “no payments for two years” program by agreeing to pay $45,000 two years from today (in time 2).
III. Make 72 monthly payments over 6 years of $675 payable at the end of each month.
A) If the interest rate is 7% annually, calculate the present value of each option.
I) 42,000/(1.07)^0=42,000
II) 45,000/(1.07)^2=39304.74
(72*675=48600
III) 48600/(1.07)^6=32384.23
(b) How low does the interest rate have to fall before Option I is a better deal than Option II?
3% 45,000/(1.03)^2=42416.82
I don’t have a hitch on my mini van. I don’t even know if I can get one. I need to get my little trailer from Mono Lake to Santa Cruz. Any ideas on how to do this, other than tow it with my van?
We want to take our cats on our travel trailer, and of course they need water. I was thinking of using Velcro or suction cups to keep the bowl in place, but this won’t necessarily keep the water from spilling out…any ideas?
The comfort corporation manufactures sofas and tables for the recreational vehicle market. The firm’s capital structure consists of 60 percent common equity, 10 percent preferred stock, and 30 percent long-term debt. This capital structure is believed to be optimal. Comfort will requite $120 million to finance expansion plans for the coming year. The firm expects to generate enough internal equity to meet equity portion of its expansion needs. The cost of retained earnings is 18 percent. The firm can raise preferred stock at a cost of 15 percent. First-mortgage bonds can be sold at a pretax cost of 14 percent. The firm’s marginal tax rate is 40 percent.
