It is written in an informal, youthful style. Some of the phrases you use, which are acceptable in ordinary conversation, are a bit irritating when expressed in writing. For example:

“You would think”, which you use a number of times.
“I mean, yeah”
“But, seriously”

If you want to write professionally, write out the chapter roughly first to fix it clearly in your mind. Then look at it and rewrite it but rephrase your sentences and your paragraphs to make them look more professional.

To help you get started look at the dialog in an Ernest Hemingway novel. It is completely natural and true to life. The descriptive scenes are expressed simply but with vividness that comes from a perceptive mind. You can’t go wrong if you study how the professions write scenes and dialogue.

The important thing is respect your audience, and be interesting. Don’t just say something for the sake of using words, say things that are interesting. And express yourself in steady thoughtful way. Your writing gushes like water in a brook flowing over stones. Let your writing unveil scenes in the mind of the reader that impress.

Sometimes less words are better than more in a sentence.

As you grow older you will mature. Your writing style will reflect this.

When I was 10 I wanted to become a writer too. I used to think a lot. I’m much older now and I never became a writer. But I believe I could write reasonably well if I put my mind to it.

I would take out the part that say : “If you’re reading this right now, you probably don’t understand it. Good. I wouldn’t either.” Or whatever. I’d be like: “You probably think i’m some bratty, disrespectful girl. And you’re right. If you lived a day in my life, you’d totally understand.” Then start with the part about your dad cheating. Because at first, I couldn’t tell if it was you telling me about the first part, or if you were telling me assitional details. Great story though!

Honestly, it is a good idea but you need to rewrite a lot of it. Add a LOT more detail and sensory words and restructure the sentences so that they aren’t so short. Also completely remove the part about this not making any sense because everything up to that made sense. I didn’t really like the opening, add more detail to it. The part about the family was great, I love the characters and how you talk about her dad but it was thrown in randomly. Maybe find a way to rewrite it so that it fits better.

Over all I love the idea and see how it could turn into a great story but without the extra detail and sensory words it felt like I was reading an essay for school, not a story. So defiantly keep it up, but work on it a lot.

Of course not. This is science fiction verging on fantasy. Shuttles just do not get accidentally launched, and NASA wouldn’t let a bunch of kids anywhere near one.

It’s still too early to tell, (politically) what will pan out & what will merely fade away.

Remember, a lot of voters have a short attention span, so whatever is the politics de jour now, will not affect how people vote in November, they won’t necessarily be affected, (if they’re liberals) by what is used as a distraction tactic today.

Liberals typically take a long-look view of the political landscape when voting, how will this affect the country?

Not so much selfish politics, which focuses on blaming the perceived weakest elements of society for unrelated social ills.

The me-first crowd will vote for whichever pandering candidate that sounds like they’re committed to the politics of selfish personal/corporate greed, like the GOP/tea baggers.
