I mean, is solar power more direct by skippping the meat in the food chain? Does someone that only eats fruits and vegetables get their energy more directly?
Yes. Solar power and natural gas.
Yes. And, animals get their energy from plants that get their energy from the sun, so meat-eaters also run on solar power.

Yes. But then, so do the rest of us. Everything we eat either eats plants, or eats something that eats plants. So without the sun, no plants, and without plants, no animals.

We eat animals, which ultimately eat the plants. Also, the fossil fuels we burn, we call them fossil fuels for a reason. They’re hydrocarbons from long-dead organisms that used to be alive thanks to the sun. Technically our cars are solar powered too

Yes, with the exception of chemosynthetic organisms that live at the bottom of the oceans and some extreme bacteria that live DEEP underground, everything else is “solar powered”. These other guys do not use photosynthesis at ALL, but instead, absorb nutrients directly from the rocks or seawater through a symbiotic process.
