Oil subsidies distort the markets. Even getting rid of all energy subsidies would be a net win for green energy because the playing field would be leveled.

Because it is a great energy source if you want to bankrupt America.

SunPower, which makes solar panels, managed to grow second-quarter revenues by 54 percent compared with the same year-earlier period.
Critical markets in Europe have cut solar subsidies, which has led to a supply glut. The excess inventory and competition from low-cost Chinese manufacturers has pushed solar-module prices down 30 percent to about $1.40 a watt from the end of last year, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance.
Of course, falling prices aren’t all bad. A whole new set of consumers, who were previously priced out of the market, can now afford to buy solar panels for their homes and businesses. As the number of residential solar installations increase, the reliance on fossil fuel-based energy sources like coal will fall — along with greenhouse gas emissions.

It isn’t that great. You can only collect a small amount of energy per square foot no matter how clever you are. That results in massive installations to generate enough energy to really do much, which harms the environment in many ways and is maintenance intensive. Not cost effective unless you artificially inflate other energy prices by restricting supplies. That is what the left wingers are doing by fighting against drilling and nuclear power. They just don’t know what pawns they are.

You know that oil is also subsidized….and corn ethanol…

solar power works, just look at any green plant. the problem with OUR development of solar power is that there wasn’t much motivation to do so what with other forms of energy that had cheaper infrastructure costs.

take for instance the computer system of the lunar lander, which was prohibitively expensive in its day, but now because we’ve developed the technology we can have much more powerful and functional computers in our pocket.

  9. Ou812 The Hate Returns says:

It is a great source of power but………the materials and technology required to manufacture the cells is expensive and extensive. Not to mention, in terms of cost vs. time of productivity, their short lifespan.

Right now coal, nuclear and hydro can operate cheaper in an 8 year timespan. Average life of a solar cell is 10. So basically you are trying to profit off of 2 years of free power over a 10 year period.

Not a very good investment if you ask me. But hey, I’ll throw some money at LDK, TSL and YGE when the Greenies start wetting their little panties……..

5% return off of LDK and 8% off of JASO this year.

It was a Great Project until the Chinese caught wind of it..(spying as usual)…and undercut the price of the Solar Panels that the U.S. Company was going to sell…

after all, they don’t have to pay a wage over a Dollar an Hour, NO benefits or Insurance…

sounds like what the Tea-Pubs are trying to do to the American Workers….

    Go Figure~!

Our Government gives Loans and Grants to Companies that are trying to make our Country more Energy Efficient….

    they just got Shanghaied~!

Funny, we also give money to successful big oil?
