What if Cornelius Vanderbilt decided to use wind & solar to power his trains in 1870 & if for steel, Carnegie?

…. had used wind and solar instead of coal to fire his furnaces?
Isn’t that what Obama and the Dems are trying to do to the US today?

Yes. They are suckered by the insane eco-bigots who are so deluded they ignore the physical realities of life on earth. They live in a hyper-deluded fairy tale world and are ravaging everything in the desperate, futile effort to pretend it can be realized.
I support practical conservation efforts but I won’t cooperate with the ultimately terribly destructive delusions.
we would have been a 3rd world country and the Dems would be proud
we can’t even make solar powered cars with TODAY’S technology, so you question is a bit odd.
Vanderbilt and Carnegie used what was available to modernize the US and US industry, and people have been adapting ever since, and it will continue.
However, they were NOT the government. Private industry should lead the way based on demand and efficiency, not goverment whims.
