The solar generation of energy is a very fast moving technology.
    The current negatives include:
In this country (US), the expense is still above that of wind, water, oil or coal by a factor of 3 or more.
It is best only for stationary applications.
It is intermittent (subject to a high concentration of clouds or heavy overcast) and therefore must include batteries for storage in any stand-alone application.
All of the hoopla regarding being a zero pollution source disregards the building of the actual cells and batteries used.

    Positives:
The expanding technology! In one case, the cell can actually be “painted” onto existing surfaces.

Negatives aside, in many other countries today (http://www.tatabpsolar.com/) solar is giving many people a new lease on life. They do not have power plants anywhere outside of major cities and no infrastructure to carry it beyond the immediate area.
As research continues to increase efficiency and reduce costs, more and more solar sourced energy will be a part of the overall picture.

The future of Solar and Wind Power is very bright.

    Some Examples:
Walmart is examining whether it can use solar panels on all of its stores worldwide. If it does, it would save walmart millions of dollars worth energy costs. Also there would be significant environmental benefits due to this. Walmart could boost its image and become an environment friendly company.
This decision of Walmart will fuel worldwide use of solar panels by retail houses and other corporates. Also the mom and pop stores will adopt solar and wind power.

There are many houses which use solar power generation equipment at home. People build the equipment themselves. Many Great Guides are available online which teach you everything in detail for setting up a cheap solar power generation system at home. You can see the top guides at http://HomeEnergyMethods.com/

So the future of solar power is bright and within a few years we will see millions of homes making their own electricity at home using renewable energy sources like sun and wind. Also most corporates will adopt solar energy. We will have a cleaner environment due to lesser use of coal for electricity generation.
