An incident at work, what should I do?
am an assistant of a detective in a detective agency. My employer married some time ago to an owner of Tlokweng Road Speedy Motors, and we keep a common office. When she married, I got a job of the secretary of the car repair office as well, with the salary raise (the garage bills and the paperwork were a sad affair when I first tackled them). My employer, her husband and his two apprentices-mechanics are all fond of tea. They drink bush tea. I tried to drink it, too, but after a while preferred an ordinary tea, so I bought a special new pretty teapot to use in the office. I am not rich, I rent a place for myself here and send a lot of money to my father back at home. I come from a little village. So, it was not an ordinary little purchase for me, that t teapot. Then, today, I started making tea for myself and Mma Ramotswe, and my new teapot was gone! We looked everywhere, and found my new teapot on the an upturned oil drum, in the garage! And one of the apprentices, Charlie, said that he was draining a tank, had nothing to catch the diesel, found my teapot in the office and it was empty, so he used it! He said he would wash it! But tea is so sensitive, it absorbs the smell of everything. I don’t want my tea to smell of diesel! I was very upset, and called Charlie a warthog! He then resigned. He said he had a rich lady-friend, married to a rich man, who paid his bills. I saw him driving with her in a Mercedes E series. I feel bad about it. I was upset because of my expensive new teapot and didn’t keep my temper. Mma Ramotswe was very kind to me, and employed me when no one wanted to, and even give me a raise when her business was doing badly. And I paid her back by antagonising her husband’s apprentice, and now he has no one to do the job! Will it help if I go after Charlie and ask him to come back, though he was wrong? What should I do?

You spin quite a tale. Maybe you should try writing novels for a living.
he annoyed you he did wrong and secondly you work for a living he sleeps with peoples wives for a living doesnt sound tooo respectable so let him keep his other job you didnt sack him this is the world not kindergarten he has to know that he wronged you, dont beg him ask him to come back but dont beg him hes cheap
Don’t worry about it. If he is so rich he should buy you a new tea pot. Besides he was probably planning on quitting and used it as an excuse or final straw.
Well Grace, unfortunately I haven’t read any of the The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency books so I can’t tell you what to do! Perhaps you should write to Mr. Alexander McCall Smith and ask him what you should do…
