Home AC package unit / blower motor question.(Grease/oil type smell)?
I just installed a NEW one( 230 volts,60 Hz 1/2 HP blower motor) I beleive a 3 speed.. The conectors from the main unit have a RED wire and BLACK wire both have connectors..The blower motor has 4 terminals..1 red 1 black 1 brown 1 orange I think..I pluged the RED wire fr: the AC unit into the RED terminal and the BLACK into the black terminal..( Is this right?)Also the motor has two brown wires for the Calpactor..Thats not the problem..When I turned on the power to the AC unit ,it worked fine and spun like a champ..When I went inside a weird oil/grease smell was coming fr; vents..Is this common? I think its fr: the blower motors greased insides and its NEW…Am i correct or should I worry that I connected the motor wires wrong..RED to red and BLACK to black..Was there some other color I should have connected or did I connect the right wires to the right terminals??..And will the oil/grease ordor go away? Is it a sign of a burn out ( the ordor)? All answers are welcomed about AC repair

Check for smoke or melted terminals. Check amp draw if you have a clamp. Other than that I think it’s probably normal. New stuff like that always has an odor when you first turn it on. It’s just residual oils and grease from the manufacturing process getting hot.
