First, need to turn the roof unit off at the disconnect or breaker box. It will freeze the evaporator, indoor unit, if the fan/blower is not working.

so, you are saying that your outdoor unit, (fan and compressor), are running continuously? that’s no good. about the only thing that could cause that problem would be the contactor switch being stuck in the closed position. IF i am reading your question correctly, you have a bad contactor and that’s not a DIY fix.

your unit will cool just fine that way, but the compressor is sure getting a work out and your electric bills will be THIS high. you really need to get this fixed! i mean, in theory a compressor should just run and run and run, but in practice, they burn up!

oh yeah. that’s right! your indoor coil will freeze up too.

what you could do in a pinch is when the indoor fan shuts off, turn the unit off. when the indoor temp warms up to the t-stat set point, put the unit back in cool mode. etc etc etc…..i do not recomend this solution.

no that wouldnt work. contactor is stuck on the high voltage side. never mind. call somebody.

Sounds like it could be a frozen contacter. Sorry, but you might need to call a technician to fix it. You will have to bite the bullet if you want to keep your baby safe. These things happen, its all part of owning a home.

You have a bad timer shutdown board, also known as a run board. this electronic board makes sure the blowers and compressor run for a couple of minutes after unit reaches desired temperature or are shut down in order to prevent premature capacitor failure. if the board is bad, either the motor will not shut down or will not turn on at all. if you are using an electronic thermostat you can bypass these boards, you will need an hvac pro to rewire the unit. its an inexpensive fix, less than $200
