Why is my computer messed up?

Hi , I have a custom built pc (by myself) , this desktop was running great for about a year , until it started shutting off while playing games, it doesnt actually power off, i can still hear it running, and my screen goes black so i just power it off manually, also my cd drive doesn not want to open. I can just hear the motor running and it tries but will not open up. I took it to a computer repair shop, they said it opened for them just fine, and that all diagnostic test came up fine. So I brought it home and the problem still occurs, i couldnt get the disk drive to open. The disk drive is really all im worried about, Also….. in the past when i have powered off my pc, there have been times where the pc just would not turn back on, pushing the power button did nothing, this is when i take the side panel off and put it back on , Viola! , the pc start up >< , i dont know why this happens, but i think something may be lose inside my pc and I cannot figure out what it is ? Any Suggestion? thanks

Maybe you should open your pc and check all the wires are in the disc drive properly.

Could be your power supply, try swapping one from another computer or buy a new one and see if that works.

If hardware then replace the disk drive with a new one.
Screen goes black? maybe your computer’s jacked. try running AV and anti malware.
OR if you have vista buy a flat screen monitor.

Sounds like one a bad switch… the cd drive may have a bad door. People push on the tray rather than the button and sometimes it will go off track and get hung in the grove. if light comes on and door moves and wont open that is it. Could be bad memory and when computer uses bad places in it the computer messes up. Might try reloading it. And back up what you can first. Then you know it hardware problem for sure. But that’s what it sounds like to me dave. .

Did you charge it. Put the charger in the pc and out-lite CHARGER it till it done if the doesn’t work keep the CHARGER in and never take it out. If it still doesn’t work the screen is out call the comp. tell them the screen is out they will get it fix it or if you don’t want to spend money. If you have a old (or new) mo-deter plug it in to the pc still doesn’t work. Do the other way.

It’s not unusual, for a power supply to become increasingly unreliable, and quirky, before it fails. When you’re gaming, you’re putting the maximum load on that power supply (and maximum heat); so, if it’s gonna act up, that would be the time it happens.

A new power supply may be the thing that makes your computer rock solid reliable again, but you can’t prove that 100% until you swap in the new power supply, and see what effect it has.

Sometimes the OS locks out the eject button, they probably out of habit went to “My Computer” right clicked on the CD and selected “eject” which usually works. To manually get that tray open a paerclip inserted into the small hole on the lower right side of the tray will force the tray to partially open if you find it necessary.

You don’t mention any of the spec’s on the PC, ie GPU, etc but I would think that if you built this yourself you installed a seperate GPU. The question is, does the PSU meet the minimum power requirements for the GPU that you have installed. Usually if the GPU requires 100 watts the PSU required minimum is about 450-500 watts.

I’m also wondering since the video goes out and you say the system is still running that your GPU may becausing power issues or being affected by power issues.

Here is a way to open the cdrom drive manually.
You should check that your video card is fully inserted into its slot. When the computer is off push down on the card to see if it will fully insert.
If that does not work you might need a better power supply. One of the power supply calculators can help determine if you need a bigger supply.
    Good luck
