maintaining wicker furniture outdoors?

I have inherited a wicker / rattan patio set from the previous house owners. It will have to be used and kept outdoors for the summer and I would like to know what type of wax / oil to use on it to afford it some protection from Northern England weather (ie usually wet and windy)!
use an exterior spray paint on them people usually go with white.but if thay are natural whicker in color and you want to keep it that way use a spray can of exterior polyurethane the same you would use for a front entry door.paint or finish after a good cleaning of course a vinyl siding cleaner that comes in a spray bottle with a rinsing of the hose should be fine
