what happens to landlord reported for habitability violations. too many to name, worst being the following:?
daughter,husb. 2sm children are renting room@ $500 living in deplorable conditions., cockroach infest is so bad sleep with lights on. when she talked to the landlord said it was her fault cause of kids eating snack in the room.etc. I took out all furniture and washed with bleach and bug spray ‘this is when they started runnin out of the open seams in the walls and falling off ceiling like rain.bombed 3 times no relief. she complains told to move.. 100′s in the coils of mini fridge and her wooden bed frame. feces all around plug ins, i check the communal kitchen same,, droppings on clean dishes this in daylight . Now they have not been able to shower or use toilet for the past month. huge hole dug in yard with foaming sewage, drain in the back patio area over flows to front yard, sometimes with feces.smell of rotten eggs and film, kids cant play, many more violations.gave letter of complaint to LL refused to pay until corrected.. was given 3 day notice to vacate tod
I would contact the police department, or local housing authority, to have the property immediately inspected. I’ve seen tenants use local media and TV stations to visit the property to put some heat on the landlord, and it usually works.
call the health department.
and call a lawyer.look in the phone book for your local “legal aid society”. this is what they do..there lawyers just love to get slumlords
if this is a apartment house the whole apartment house is infested. and treating one apartment will never stop a cockroach infestation.
plus start taking photos of all violations.and keep all paper work from your landlord.
if all else fails and you get thrown out take the photo and all the paperwork to the local news papers.
plus file a small claims court suit. for all the money you are out from having to move at short notice.
call friends over to witness all that is happening.
also check in most parts of the country they must give 30 days notice not 3 days. more money in small claims court
Just out of curiosity…how is Gods name could you allow your children to live in such deplorable conditions? Forget giving letters to your landlord and vacate immediately…for your children’s sake.
