What is the best product to protect / weatherproof outdoor plastic furniture?

I have painted a plastic outdoor patio table and need to protect it with something other than a sheet of plastic. I have heard of stays clear but I haven’t found anything more on the product. I want something that won’t yellow in the sun. Any ideas?

Why do you need to protect a painted piece of outdoor plastic furniture? As long as you used exterior grade paint you should be in fine condition. Every clear coating that I am aware of either is not meant for the purpose you are asking about or will definitely yellow and/or change the color.
If you can give some more information perhaps I could help you more. Good luck!

UV Stabilizers are added to plastics that are exposed in the sun to prevent them from yellowing over. You will have to use acrylic paint on the plastic in order for it to stick. Unfortunately, most outdoor plastics are made from Polypropylene and do not take painting very well since it is inert. The paint is probably going to flake no matter what you do.
The only thing you can do is spray on an outdoor urethane and hope it sticks.
