Why does my dog….?

Why does my 11lb adopted poodle stare at my wife and 15lb bischon from the back patio all day and night? She plays with us in the morning and at night, then runs outside, sits on the patio furniture, and just STARES ALL DAY.
Just her head poking…staring…judging…plotting.
I swear, it creeps out my wife and makes me think of Cujo!

You say the dog is adopted. Maybe she hasn’t had good socializations and you could teach her. If she is sitting elevated “overseeing” the play, she could have been a “lap dog” and is playing the role of Alpha because of it.

Is your dog a standard poodle?
If so, she is just studying you to see how much you and your family squirm when stared at. She is a psychologist at heart
Dogs do not judge us, they just are…
She is hoping to train you and your family to do something. If it were aggression, you would see the skin around the muzzle scrunching & the vocalizations would be very distinctive.
Most dogs do not go postal unless they are suffering from a disease.
She probably just wants y’all to throw something for her to chase fur goodness sake!
It takes at least 3 months or even longer for a re-homed dog to settle in and show their personality. Until then just let her be in whatever way she is comfortable provided the behaviour is not damaging.
It is better not to project human emotions on your dog, they do have emotions but not necessarily think the way humans do.
It’s great that she is playing with you, that is a good start. You could try putting more structure in the day, perhaps walk the two dogs together with you, and maybe have a game outside with them both.
You might even try some obedience or agility classes to help with the bonding, you need to allow some time for the dog to bond.
She’s waiting for you to come out and play.
What is the other dog doing during all this?
If a dog is staring at you and you look away,I heard it means they know they have dominated you.You have to wait and make them break the stare first.
