Clicking Noise – I’m Thinking Maybe The Blower Fan?
Yesterday morning was pretty cold so I went to start my truck up. Once it was warm enough, I turned on the heater. After about ten minutes I turned it off and shut the engine off. I then heard a clicking noise which lasted about ten seconds. It was clear enough that I know it wasn’t under the hood, but somewhere in the cab. It sounded like it came from above the passenger side floorboard, right where the blower is housed. I started my truck up again and turned the heat back on, shut it down, shut the engine off, but the problem didn’t repeat. This morning I had to run an errand so I went to start my truck, and the clicking noise occurred again. I placed my hand on the blower housing and felt a slight vibration, so I am thinking that was where it was coming from. On my way back home, I didn’t use the heater, and when I shut my truck off, there was no clicking. So I am thinking maybe the motor or clutch is at fault. Any ideas?

dont start the truck just turn the key to the on position, and turn fan on does it relate to the on and off that way? also does it speed up as you increase the speed of the fan? if so then probably the squirrel cage hitting something or motor bearings
It’s probably just the hot exhaust parts cooling down. Metal joints will make a clicking sound as they expand and contract. This is normal and nothing to worry about.
The clue here is in the first part of your question. You had already shut off the truck. When you shut off the vehicle there will be no power anywhere and nothing is running.
on some gm trucks…….the air doors return to their “home” position after shutdown. Depends on which setting is used, of course. The actuator is an electric motor, which can click if it has a stripped out gear in it.
I can only guess it is the recirculation door servo.
You never mentioned year, make or model.
