    @powerstrokehelp Thanks Bill…appreciate the input.

@SlappyHuck Probably a bad Oil Cooler, but needs further investigation before teardown. Drive the truck with engine monitoring system (most diagnostic tools can isolate these sensors) to monitor engine coolant temp (ECT) and engine oil temp (EOT). If on a long grade the EOT goes over 235F then the cooling fan kicks on. At 250 the PCM defuels the engine. If the difference between ECT and EOT is more than 15-18 degrees then the OIl Cooler needs to be replaced.

Thanks Bill! I know your a very busy person n all but you should make a video on the whole 6.0 EOT vs ECT delta. That’s where the problem with the 6.0 starts no? And by switching to an ELC early on would keep particulates that Ford Gold Coolant produces when heated up good and not maintained properly. Would a coolant filter be wise on a bulletproofed 6.0 with ELC? And if Ford Gold is so good why does international use
    ELC in the dt365?

Unfortunately, my ’04 has had many of the cooling issues you talk about. At 80K, over the course of one summer, it got a new overflow bottle, a new EGR cooler and then heads. I finally deleted the EGR which took care of the puking but it will still go into limp mode (takes out boost) during summer climbs in the mountains (small 6K 5th wheel). I haven’t replaced the oil cooler so I assume this would be the last step in hoping to cure the issue. Would you agree?

  5. powerstrokehelp says:

@hondatuner88 Yes, this is what we do at PowerStrokeSpecialty. It is important for the EGR valve to remain installed so at initial start up diagnostic the computer “sees” it. Once the truck is running and the computer goes to open loop operation the tuning never opens the valve. This is crucial on 06 and later 6.0s because without the tuning the computer will spit out a check engine light and go into failsafe mode which kills performance and fuel economy.

  6. hondatuner88 says:

Bill, would you think if you did an egr delete. Cleared code with scanner. Couldnt you just reinstall the egr valve for inspection?

  7. kayem25 says:

You should post a video specifically on the cooling system that may prevent head issues, such as knowing whether or not your coolers are clogged, whether or not to replace them (with stock or aftermarket coolers), doing a flush, whether or not you should put any additives in (that may or may not unclog your coolers) how to install a coolant filter, and doing any other preventetive maintenance for people who may not have 6+ grand to bulletproof their motor from overheating and clogging issues.

Wow, so many failure points on modern diesels.

  9. powerstrokehelp says:

@txgp17 The oil may be mixing back into the fuel, if the middle oring is seeping. The cheap first step is to replace the injector orings. It is labor intensive but the parts are cheap. If you want a tutorial for a $99 subscription to the Master Mechanic’s series on the Powerstrokehelp website will help you through the steps.

@travelingbushcraft I have a 02′ 7.3 that keeps throwing DTC P1211 when I get on it hard for more than a few seconds. I’ve replaced the ICP, IPR, and there are no obvious leaks anywhere on the exterior of my HPOP or the lines or plugs. At this point I’m assuming I have a bad o-ring on an injector. I have AutoEnginuity that allows me to read Inj. Cont. Pressure, and it won’t hold above 2,500 psi. At 260,000, the engine uses very little oil. I’ll just drive it until it becomes a bigger problem.

@rgpark69 Change the hose, flush the coolant, new thermostat and a new coolant cap. EDAS will work with any gas or diesel engine, but the 5.4L doesn’t have head gasket problems like the 6.0L. BUT if you get any engine hot enough the head gaskets become unstable.

  12. sjones5674 says:

Great vid…I plan on pulling into your shop someday with my ’04 6.0 PSD.

  13. rgpark69 says:

so is there a system like this for the 5.4 gas ford or should i just change my thermostat at 120k the lower radiator hose expanded enough to rub the Pittman arm ? 2003 e-350 sd long cargo

@AnotherDayInTheNJ I am the head squirrel looking for a nut. Just kidding. Find something that you like and be the best it. Strive every day to be better and know more than the day before. I have an intense, obsessive personality, an eye for detail and no room for being second best. It has taken me far.

  15. powerstrokehelp says:

@6speeddakota you could but if you are going to all that trouble why not just install the EGR delete?

  16. powerstrokehelp says:

@Jason1Pa look up 6.0 system flush here on you tube or the POWERSTROKEHELP website

  17. powerstrokehelp says:

@travelingbushcraft Please send this thru the the email system on the site but yes the IPR would be the next step.

  18. powerstrokehelp says:

@lowrthnu92 I agree, I used to think the coolant filter was a waste but after what I have seen lately I have changed my mind. If the coolant stays changed then the filter is redundant, but still a whole lot cheaper than a head gasket job.

  19. powerstrokehelp says:

    @snowman44077 They cant afford me.

  20. powerstrokehelp says:

@Drewtitus We thought about that but once it is stuck all in those little holes and flues it is next to impossible to get it out.

  21. powerstrokehelp says:

@ajbkid A coolant filter cant hurt but if your coolant is nasty the damage has already been done. Install one with your new oil cooler.

  22. Drewtitus says:

is there anyway so get the stuck particulate out of the coolers

  23. snowman44077 says:

Buddy, you do research and look at problems in a way Ford and Navistar could never pull off. They really need to hire you.

  24. adrianspeeder says:

Love seein’ mickey mouse in my powerstroke! Good tips. Could you do a similar 6.4L video?

  25. djbazzmaster says:

once again a nice video! All though i dont have a powerstroke hehe.
