Air Force active duty vs reserves?
Hey there I was looking into possibly joining the air force, I have not spoken to any recruiters yet, because I feel they may tell me what I want to hear to get me to join. At the same time, I don’t know if I am to old to join. I am 25, and got a 4 yr degree in finance/economics, worked in finance for 2 years and didn’t like it. What is the average age group in boot camp? 18 yrs I am assuming? I also saw on there website that in order to become a pilot you must have a 4yr degree and pass the physical requirements, but would anyone know how likely it is to become a pilot even if you pass those requirements? I also want to become a cop, that’s why I was debating reserves vs active duty, but at the same time, cops are being cut back now due to the economy especially in my state of Massachusetts. Any feedback and more would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

go reserves first, then if you like it later on go active. i heard the airforce is pretty full right now..but always worth trying
Well I can answer the pilot part of your question. Since you already have a four year degree, the route you would have to take to become a pilot is OTS (Officer Training School), as only officers can be pilots. I’m going to be honest, from what I have heard, it can be difficult to even get into OTS because the Air Force Academy and ROTC at colleges is the most common way that the Air Force commissions officers. Depending on how many officers the Air Force needs every year, the amount of guys getting into OTS differs. It is even more difficult to get a pilot slot out of OTS unless you are near the top of your class. Once again, the majority of the pilot slots go to Academy and ROTC guys, and there is a few left over for OTS. Not saying that it is impossible, just much more difficult and you would need to be on your game. Most of the people in OTS would be in about the same age range as you, not really a big deal either way. If you go to wantscheck.com, and go to the section where it talks about OTS, you can get more details on what it is all about
