best spot for stargazing in Maine?

where is the best place to go stargazing in Maine. We don’t want to go camping though, but dont mind driving to a great spot. We are driving up from NYC for a long weekend. Thanks!

look up detailed NIGHT TIME sattelite images of Maine. You will get a great idea as to where to go (go where there is little light).
My local astronomy club offers information on desireable viewing places. Check your local astronomy club.
Call your local counties villages and inquire as to which towns have enacted “Light Pollution Ordinances”.
Now just drive around and look for dark areas. Farm fields are perfect they have wide fields that offer lower horizons due to trees. After you find one, ask the homeowner if it is okay to set up there at night. Always invite them to look anytime. (They will usually be very nice if you are respectable. EVERYONE wants to see galaxies.)
Always bring some form of protection. Thieves.
Might look here and check out some of the regional astronomy clubs. There might be a public program offered at a state park or science museum too.
