Bottled gas for recreational vehicles contains propane, C3H8, and butane, C4H10.?

(question continued) Which molecules have the faster velocity?

if you help me thanks.

One Response to “Bottled gas for recreational vehicles contains propane, C3H8, and butane, C4H10.?”

  1. Kimiko says:

    v = SQRT (3RT/M)

    Notice that the molecular mass of a gas is inversely proportional to the speed of the gas. Meaning, the heavier the gas, the slower is the gas speed. Therefore, C3H8 is faster than C4H10.

    Calculation:
    M (C3H8) = (12×3) + (1×8) = 44 grams/mol
    M (C4H10) = (12×4) + (1×10) = 58 grams/mol
