can i bring a machete on a plane?

I am planning on going camping in california. i live in new york. tomorrow is my flight. i was wondering if i could bring a machete on the plane if i packed it in my suitcase. the whole thing is about the length of my forearm and i am 5’9″. So would i be able to bring it on and should i tell them beforehand about it?
i do mean put it in my suitcase, not a carry on
i think it would be very wise if you called the airlines you are flying and ask them first.
but i highly doubt that would be acceptable… could be a weapon…
only in your checked luggage. I would call them first before attempting to even bring it into the airport for specific instructions.
if you check it. but dont even try to bring it carry on, you would most likely get fully searched and questioned and then they would take away the machete away.

You may not ever bring machetee on a plane that you don’t own
See site below and read under “Sharp Objects.” You can take swords in your checked luggage, so a machete should be fine.
