Can I have a camp fire (stone fire pit) on private land in New York?

I cannot find out what laws would apply, but people keep telling me that I cannot just burn some wood on my private land without a permit. We are not talking about anything grand, just a small fire pit and a few logs. The property is in Sullivan County, NY. I’ll appreciate and answer from someone who knows. Thanks.

as long as you are not in NY NY I don’t see why not… as long as you have water by you at all times to put the fire out. Also I think you need a metal ring of some type (ie semi truck rim, pickup rim) to contain the fire pit from colapse. make sure you have some brick around it too… keeps the embers from lighting the grass on fire… just be safe…
You need to respect the property right of the owner. Just ask for their permission.
