There are few places in California that will grant you a CCW permit. The way around that when in the forests and deserts is to get and carry a hunting licences. Most of the National Forests and BLM land are open to hunting and coyote and jackrabbits are fair game all year. “Officer, I’m a’huntin’ cyotes!”
In state parks they must be unloaded. Keep it in your trunk and the ammo in your glove box and you are OK. I sleep with a loaded gun in my tent. I bet most people do. California out back is crowded.
State parks, no. National Forest, yes. National Parks, no. I carry a .38 in a holster when camping in the woods and have had contact with the law with no problem at all in Ca. Hunting license was not required. Just an out in the open gun-belt holster. Guns not allowed in campgrounds .
