This gets asked a lot and the amount of space is limited to the number of tips, lists and advice you need as a beginner so here is a link to some great advice.

Dos and don’ts: Don’t go off on your own. Have a buddy. Do know in which direction camp is, at all times. Don’t drink water from anywhere except the tap labeled “potable water”. Don’t keep food in your tent. Don’t buy cheap gear. You won’t be happy. Buy gear for the purpose regardless of the expense. If you don’t, you’ll be so unhappy, you’ll never go camping again.

Get the right gear for sleeping and the rest will work itself out. You need shelter and bedding. Don’t forget the foam sleeping pad. You must have one. Get gear for the conditions you’ll be in. Protect yourself from cold, rain, and bugs. Avoid cotton clothing and gear at all costs.

Don’t skimp on food. Bring a stove, extra fuel, get a menu together and eat well. Bring portable snacks: trail mix, fruit. Stay dry or be able to get dry. Bring sunscreen, bring toys for your location: water, games, Frisbees, ball and glove, cards, jokes, puzzles.

Bring campfire stories and ingredients for SMORES. Bring or be able to get tons of water in water bottles/canteens. Avoid the radios and electronics. Enjoy the darkness, the bright night sky, and the quietness. Be quiet so you can see the wildlife, explore to places you’ve never been or seen. Get a map of the area.

If in a camping area, be aware that your voices travel easily. Keep it down to avoid bothering others. Voices travel surprisingly well and loudly. Live by the rules of the camping area.

Careful of your fire and your trash. Do clean up after yourselves. Leave only tracks, take only photographs. Leave it better than you found it.

lol there are black bears in the everglades
well as for what to do and what not to do the only thing I can tell you is if your planning on hiking bring a buddy so your not alone if something happens and stay on the trail

camping is pretty strait forward there is always something to do maybe not what a lot of people like to do but there is still stuff like hiking fishing biking bird watching and so on…

it would help me out a lil if I new what kind of camping you were doing like if your in a tent or a motor home or a camper or in a cabin some people even consider a motel with a fire pit outside camping.

    good luck and have fun

    Do:
    Wear bug spray (Florida)
Bring baby wipes (bathroom time is much improved)
Be prepared for cold, even if the weather reports say it will be warm.
Bring a baseball cap (and hair sruntchie if your a girl) and leave all but the most basic toiletries at home.
Wear some sort of clothing to bed and keep your shoes/boots and flashlight by your sleeping bag for when you have to get up to go to the bathroom at night.
Make sure you have a comfortable mattress or pad because bad sleep = crappy camping.
Bring more liquids than you think you’ll need on a hike.
Bring zip ties and zip tie other people’s tent zippers while they sleep.

    Don’t:
Go off hiking on your own.
Wear brand new shoes/boots on a hike.
Drink unfiltered water from a lake/stream.
Drink 10 cups of hot chocolate right before bed (see above… going to the bathroom during the night).

There are thousands of pieces of advice, of course. These are just the ones that I came up with off the top of my head.

Camping isn’t really that difficult if you are going along with other people who have done it a lot.
