Feedback on the PT cruiser and 1st car questions..?

Soooo… im thinking about getting a PT cruiser as my first car, i’ve read and heard about the horror stories about the vehicle (but what car doesn’t have its horror stories right?) but i literally would only be driving to work and school and maybe going out here and there for recreational purposes, so i want to know if i could at least trust it to do those things because i’m really interested in getting one. I’m thinking a 2001 and up, used….also if neone with experience can add in the main TO LOOK FOR’s when buying a used vehicle from a dealer and private owner, and questions to ask that’d be great when looking at the vehicle…Thanx

Honestly you need to use Consumer Reports. Google their website. It is 20 bucks for a year but the info is INVALUABLE for reliability data. It also covers just about every product besides cars so you can use it for a lot of other stuff for the rest of the year. The PT cruiser is based on the Dodge Neon platform and has terrible reliability and sub par safety. Seriously… especially if this is your first car, it is well worth the 20 bucks to get unbiased, honest information.
I have an ’04. 94k mi on the clock. The only problem I have is a noisy rear suspension. Its a $100 fix if it wasn’t so damn cold outside!!! I’m the second owner, my mother was the first, so I have the history of the car. Pan gasket leak fixed under warranty, Air cond. compressor @ 70K miles, that was pricey at $700+ now a nylon do-nut in the rear suspension. The little 4 banger is underpowered but it just keeps chugging along with nothing but a tuneup. Its actually a fun car to drive. (When I can get my wife out of it)
