Not on a lake but a river is River View Campground up I-75 (about 2.5 hours from detroit)

There is Otter Lake about 1.5 hours from detroit

Another nice campground that is within walking distance of Lake Erie but it’s in Ohio (about 1 hour from detroit) is Maumee Bay state park near Toledo

    Interlochen State Park

Also, the KOA in Petersburg, MI is right off of US 23. It has a waterslide and an air-conditioned tree house cabin. It’s not on a lake, though…just a pond.

These are probably the two most popular state parks in Michigan: Petoskey and Traverse City. But if you follow Skittles’ advice and go to Interlochen, you may have the additional treat of being able to step across the road to the Interlochen Center for the Arts and catch a concert, depending upon when you’re up there and your taste in music.

Rifle River State Park in Lupton Mi.
