Well, if you come up short on options, Land-O-Pines is in Covington and Hidden Oaks is in Hammond. They’re both family type places. LOP has a water slide (just one), mini-golf, a pool, and they also have a creek that goes on for a few miles in either direction, and that’s fun to walk.
Hidden Oaks doesn’t have all the same stuff to do as LOP, but they have a bike trail.
I live in Houma, so I can tell you it doesn’t take that long to get to either one. Hidden Oaks is on 182, I believe.
But it sounds like you’d prefer a place more out of the way, so you probably wouldn’t like those, lol.
Try Kemper Williams Park

I did my driver’s ed in Lockport like, 5 years ago! HAHA! I don’t know of any campsites too near, but a lot of my friends from when I lived in Thibodaux and went to Nicholls would go down to Grand Isle a lot. Probably not a good idea with the oil spill though. My dad just recently stayed up at Bayou Segnette State Park which is going to be on HWY 90 towards New Orleans. Take the Westbank Expressway and it’s on the right, not too far down (Just past the Alario Center on Segnette Blvd.) They have a lot of rabbits, LOL, and there is a campsite on one of their roads that you have to walk to get to and it’s pretty secluded.
