Have you ever gone camping with cats?
My family and I are planning on camping for the summer… for 3 months! YAY! The question has arisen though, what to do with our 3 cats. I say we take them with us, purchase some harnesses and a large acordian crate for them – and make the best of it. I have got mixed results about this and am not sure. I guess I could put them in kitty care for 3 months, but that seems silly.
Our cats are great travelers, and have gone even on long trips from California to Vegas (not so long) and then a cumbersome 3 day trip moving from Vegas to Colorado and both times they did awesome.
But has anyone ever tried camping with 1 cat (let alone more than one)? If you have can you give us your advice or opinions.
We will be mainly tent and car camping, maybe picking up an RV for the last month – but we are still in the early planning stages.
Thank you!
lol and they are all spayed with shots – so yes, they will be ok pynk
hehehe

yes, i have i got 4 cats but we leave them at home sometimes
i say definitely bring them, you’ll save alot of money by not having to send them to kitty care, plus, i’m sure you’ll have alot of fun playing with your cats out in the wild, i myself have 5 cats, i bring them to certain events all the time, for a 5 month trip across america, they were great, adapted very well with travel, good luck
i was brought up by wild cats in the wilds of battersea common in london for 9 years.
It sounds as though your cats are very well behaved, and you should have no problem bringing them with you on the trip. If you get an RV for the last month, then you shouldn’t have to worry at all since the cats can stay in the RV.
However with tent and car camping, an outdoor accordion fence is the right idea, but cats are able to get through the holes in the fence. Best bet, if you have the storage space, is to pick up some chicken wire fence, about 4 feet high, an a big area. Buy a couple of new toys for the cats, like a bagful, and throw a new toy in every week or so to keep them more interested in staying put rather than escaping. And keep the pen in the shade, largest amount possible, because you don’t want to cook your cats, and it will just be more incentive for them to escape.
Most cats are territorial, so make sure the pen is big enough, for the three of them, unless they are all O.K. being in a tight space for long amounts of time. A shoulder harness/leash for each cat should be bought, with an extra long rope, so if you want you could tie them to a tree and they can wander for 50 feet in any direction. Rotate cats out of the harness so they can each get a taste of having the ability to explore.
Putting the cats in kitty care might do more harm then good, because leaving any animal that can become attached to you for more than 2-3 weeks will have a big affect on it.
Bring em with you and enjoy the trip
I think they cats will do fine? is Cali still in heat? lol
i camp full time all over the place i have seen many people bring their cats i have even seen people walk them just like a dog but for the most part people dont let them out
