Hoquiam/Aberdeen Washington?

Try to make this short and sweet.
Need rain, fog and green forrest with lots of hiking, biking, camping, shelling, clamming.
Do not need big smoggy city, crowded public transportation, loud traffic jams, snooty people and keeping up with the Jones’s.
Would like to start own business, furniture making and clay art.
Would like Hoquiam/Aberdeen area. High paying jobs are not what I am seeking, would like to purchase house in future that I wont be paying on till I die.
Anyone have anything to say? Please just say how you feel, be honest I will take your info and analize it.
Thanks

the hoquiam aberdeen area sucks. the area has had a dwindling ecomomy over the years due in large part to the timber industy going bust.
there is a lot of drug use in the area and the crime to go with it.
most houses are built on a post block foundation and the land is fairly unstable ( the sidewalks are very uneven) most houses in the area have sagging and settling and it is prone to flooding faily minor but the yards can become very waterlogged. usually i had 3 – 8 inches of water in my yard and underneath my house.
the traffic is mild but at times it can be bad as it is the way to the ocean and can become packed with fishers and campers.
there are positives also
low housing prices, i purchased a house for 92k with fees, it was 1200 sq. feet and built in 1923 fairly small lot but there are plenty to choose from.
the electricity company is public, and on average it only cost 60 bucks a month to power my house and 50 for gas heat.
taxes are low and going down. biz taxes are really low also and the city would sure to offer breaks for some buisnesses.
the area is fairly nice and green and the neighbors are nice.
it has a good public transportation system and you can go all over grays harbor county for only 50 cents.
I guess for some people the area isnt all that great but for others it can be.
the other bad thing is houses take a while to sell, my neighbor who has one of the highest value houses in my neighborhood has been trying to sell his house for 8 months now, so if you move out there make sure you like it.
i would say spend some time out there first too see how much you really like it first. if it were a big city the hoquiam aberdeen area would be the “ghetto”
also read the newspaper. http://www.thedailyworld.com is the paper over there that you can read online.
i hope this was helpful, i made a huge mistake moving there as it pretty much turned my life upside down, but maybe you would have a different experience.
It is a nice area with limited traffic and a decent cost of living. Slowly over the years it is becoming more of a bedroom community to the Seattle metro area which has had some benefits such as a well developed transit system with connecting bus service through nearby Olympia to Tacoma & Seattle. Overall Aberdeen remains a quaint ocean side town with plenty of oppertunity to achieve what you seem to be looking for. Finding good work can be tough for some but since you obviously plan to run yor own business again you should do quite well. Good Luck!
To be honest that area is pretty damn boring, and there is not alot of job opportunities there. Move closer to seattle, or in a city outside of seattle, they have tons of job opportunities and alot more to do.
Hoquiam and Aberdeen are very nice Pacific Northwest towns and you will get all the fog and rain you can handle. Can get kind of touristy in the summer but not that it becomes a problem. There are all sorts of outdoor activities there such as hiking, fishing, windsurfing etc. A very laid back way of life and generally the housing is less expensive as compared to Seattle etc. If you want rain, fog, wind etc. then these are the places to go.
Hmmm…whenever I drive through that area it seems very economically depressed. I think the whole area is really drying up due to the dying timber industry.
What about somewhere like Anacortes? Seems like a nicer area with more of an “artsy” community.
If you want more rain and fog go to Forks.
Aberdeen is way to large for the small way you say you want to live.
