how can missing child posters make the abductors panicked and doing something awful?

a child that was missing on Monday on his way from summer camp to his home (8 years old) in New York, was abducted or lured by a man. He killed him the following day, and, bitched his body.
then he put half of his limbs to the fridge, HALF was damped 2 miles away in trash can.
he was captured early Wednesday. He said he panicked when he saw posters, and that is why he did what he did.
That is so awful. The wake held yesterday night drew tens of thousand people.

missing child posters means that law enforcement are making an effort to find the boy, which makes the guy scared. he knows that returning the boy will just get him in trouble, so he killed the boy and cut him up in an attempt to avoid getting caught,
I have read that he was spooked by the extent of the searches for the boy – but nothing about missing child posters scaring him.
Besides, police usually make you wait 48 hours before officially listing someone as missing – and it takes more than 24 hours for missing children posters to be printed and then hung around neighborhoods…
