How do I apply for a lost title?

By

My father traded a truck camper for a pull behind pop-top camper. He passed away before we were able to apply for a title transfer. We went to the DMV to transfer the title and they informed us that the person that signed the title needed to be there. This meant either my father (deceased) or the original owner (Moved out of state with no forwarding address). So I am left trying to apply for a title to a recreational vehicle in someone else’s name. Showing the death certificate merely changed the subject to the contacting the original owner, which is nearly impossible. So my question is how do I go about Transferring ownership of the camper to myself so that I can have it registered and tagged legally and keep the city off my back. I live in Tampa, Florida. I have the original title but it is filled out by people who can not vouch for thier own signatures. Any advice or direction would be extremely helpful. And I appologize in advance in this question has already been answered.

Under the circumstances, it probably would be best to seek the advice of a lawyer. They may have connections to either get it transferred, or locate the original owner to get a verification of the signatures. I don’t like lawyers any better than skunks, but this is one time they will probably help.

Contact your local DOT office and not the DMV office.

They will instruct you as to what you need to do next.

You will need to title the vehicle in the estate of your father, and then the estate can transfer the title to his heirs. If your father had a will, the executor of the will would be the one to do this. If not, a “personal representative” for the estate will be appointed by the courts.

Check with a lawyer to see what will need to be done!

Sorry I could not give an easier answer
