How do you clean an RV gas tank?

I bought an old 1977 Class A Motorhome, and it has an extra gas tank. I want to be able to use it but im afraid of the quality of the gas if any. I dont wnat to have to totally take it apart or anything. Could I just pour a couple bottle of HEAT in there? Is it dangerous to use it?

YOU DONT BUY A NEW ONE
For a 20+ years of use, I would expect it to be dirty and needs cleaning. Depending on how handy you are, it would be advisable to take it down so you can clean it very well. Try to contact the manufacturer is they have drawings of the original tank design. Typically you will need to disconnect the fuel line, wiring & sensor. The bolts and attachments will have to be removed and the old gas emptied. Safely degas it to completely remove flammable gasoline fumes. Use a boroscope to inspect the interiors. The visuals will tell you the amount of cleaning needed. There are commercially available cleaners that can dissove petroleum sludge, drain and flush completely and dry. Good luck.
