How quickly after marriage do you get a physical piece of paper as proof?

I’m leaving for Navy boot camp in just over a month and I am looking to get married fast. However, I have many documents to change my name on which need proof of marriage. I’m looking to find out if you get to keep your marriage license or some other legal proof on the day of the marriage. I live in New York State, but not in the NYC.

My husband and I received our license on the day we married. We eloped
Yeah, you’ll get your papers immediately. Good luck.
The license gets filled out by the clergy who performs the ceremony, then the couple files it with the county clerks office. They will make you a certified copy and it’s a few bucks. You need the certified copy for name change etc.
