I need a quick answer to this – is there an active hunting season in Maryland right now?

I was set to go camping with a friend this weekend here in Virginia, but it turns out there is a statewide fire ban so that has seriously destroyed our plans.

I would consider going to Maryland but I’m not real keen on going into the woods if there is an active hunting season going on.

Please advise.
Beth, I appreciate the details. Unfortunately, it’s not the actual camping that I am concerned about , it’s the daytime hiking and not really being familiar with the facility.

Yup, stay out of the woods during hunting season………let the hunter shoot each other.

You can still go camping even if it is hunting season. Hunters can’t just hunt anywhere- I’m sure you’d be safe in a camp ground unless it was right on the border of some area that is commonly used for hunting.

If you have any questions, look up Maryland Fish & Wildlife or Fish & Game and see if there’s an 800 number listed where you can get info on hunting in the state. Also, the State Parks Dept. should be able to clue you in on where you can safely camp this time of year.

    Good luck! :-D

Hunting is not allowed in MD state parks except in rare and controlled circumstances. So unless you intend to go out “hiking” on private property, you should be fine.

Be careful with those campfires here too, we’re in extreme drought conditions in MD also.

Bowhunting for Deer is on here in Maryland starting the 5th but firearms season doesn’t come into play until just before Thanksgiving, on November 24th You would be safe, not to worry……..
