I want to join the army infantry but I have a GED so I can’t right now. I went to the army recruiter in my town and they said since i have a GED i have to have 15 college credits or more to join the army right now. The national guard says I can join with a GED then after boot camp i can easily switch from part time guard to full time active army. Is this true I live in new jersey. Thanks for all answers

i transfer its hard but can be done.. i did
get a dd368 ,transfer letter (why) and da4187 online
in your letter dont say becuz of money. and if you got a bouns you pay it back
Whatever the recuriter says ask him to put it in writing. before you go study the ASVAB and take a pracitce test before the real one. then dont second guess yourself
The fact that you have a GED should not stop you from joining the army.
They require a high school diploma or it’s equivalent (GED).

The kid next door is in the National Guard,, he has been trying to get into regular Army for a year , infantry .. He said that the State Governor will not approve his transfer.. I don’t know what that means or any more of the situation, but I do know he is not happy about it ,,, good luck
If you want to go to active army then go that route. The guard recruiter wants you to join through him to get the credit for the enlistment. The requirement to join the guards is the same for active duty. Your GED is the same as a high school diploma. Have you talked with a regular army recruiter? alot of it will depend on your ASVAB scores. I have never known an army of infantry to not accept someone into infantry. Good luck
When i was in the guard there was no problem with that..If your crazy enough to switch knock your self out…You don’t need a ged to squeeze a trigger..We had someone in Hudson County switch over with no problem..His chopper was brought down in viet nam…end of story..enjoy the ride .Im sure you may see action somewhere when activated ..We just have to find some action in the mideast.be patient
lots of time to be a hero..good luck
There are a number of people who have to approve your transfer. Starting with your unit’s commander.
To have your transfer approved you need to be a very good soldier. Have excellent PT scores, show up on time and ready to train every drill. Have excellent Militray bearing.
If you are a slacker your transfer will never leave the company commander’s desk.
If you can meet some of the people, like that company commander, or some NCOs from your Guard Unit you can get an opinion from them on how easy it will be to transfer.
This is the hard way into active duty and may take a lot of time. You should consider choosing a different MOS if you really want to go active.
easily? NO. while it is allowed, getting released from your Guard unit and then accepted by the AD side may not be a slam dunk.
they do NOT have to let you go.
if you want to guarantee AD.. get the 15 100 levelk college credits and go directly into the Active side of the Army.
Go Guard and volunteer for activation. You are still guard.
Or you can Go Guard and go to college for FREE as a New Jersey Guardsman, and go active when you ETS from the Guard.
Its kind of complicated.
The process is straightfoward – wait six months after you complete Basic and AIT, you get a conditional release form from an Army recruiter and submit it to your unit.
They’re obligated to release you (esp if you need full time work) UNLESS there is a pending mobilization for your unit or that they can put you on.
The easiest way is probably going to be to get back from Basic/AIT, mobilize or volunteer to mobilize and then as your tour winds down, switch to the regular Army. This option was presented to me both deployments I’ve been on and at the end of the tour those guys had leave and then reporting orders for the Army.
Several people in my National Guard are trying to switch to Active. They will not let them go, because OUR unit needs them in those slots. You National Guard commander will have the final say, and no, they don’t HAVE to say yes. So, no, you may not be able to switch easily.
If you want to go Active, go take the 15 college credits, then go Active.
