What’s the deal with camping in the winter? Does it become impracticle due to the inclimate weather? Any suggestion on how best to approach winter camping w/ a lover? Any ideas of other dating activities to keep it live and entertaining? by the by we’re in long island new york…

Weather is a big problem yes
New york sucks.
do it. it’ll give you a reason to cuddle up
share a sleeping bag…and a nice fire..how romantic
what i wold do is bring plenty of blankets and snuggle up to him all nite long.
if you want to camp go to a campgrounds with cabbins. it costs more but you are still camping and in comfort.
Why not try a resort instead…catch some skiing on the slopes and hot cocoa next to the fireplace…quite romantic
I would say how you could cuddle, but I saw Survivorman freeze his a$$ off once and that didn’t look too fun.
That sounds awesome! Getting your freak on in the great outdoors! Love it!
OOO sounds so romantic b/c you can get under a blanket to snuggle and keep warm. Have fun!
i don’t know anything about new york, i am in california. it gets about 30 degrees in the winter at night. we go winter camping and we make sure to sleep on an air matress off the ground. there are closed cell sleeping pads that are good for sleeping on the snow. buy the right degree rating sleeping bags and change your socks before bed. they make heaters that can go in a tent. warming pads for socks and gloves. drink lots of hot cocoa- but not before bed ( nothing worse than a cold behind) and eat a good snack before bed like salami or summer sausage and cheese and crackers- it will help you sleep warmer. the best aproach for with a lover? an adam and eve sleeping bag of course.
i feel the same as you. i live almost in canada and cant wait till its warms enough to sleep outside and bring up camping to him. you should to it seems like a perfect thing to do
Go to Australia – or anywhere else south. It’s summer there.
heated cabins with heated indoor pools etc.. but if not into the cold as enjoyment therefore no stars to view how about traveling to warm climate and then can see stars, like florida, its usually warm as long as not a hurricane weekend putting your life in jeporady.
If your weather is like where I come from,,, Reno Nevada? freezing and wet… now is not the time to camp outside unless you have an RV at your disposal… Maybe a small cabin in the Mountains somewhere if you can afford it… with a fireplace, and a nice walk under the stars with lots of warm clothing… You want Him to remember a good experience, not how you froze to death… Or have Him plan it with you, that could be fun, but keep it simple….At least he would know that you are interested in Him…..
Nothing wrong with it, and not impractical, if you plan ahead. I will say that the kind of equipment you would need is going to be expensive, and it’s a lot of gear, if you’re camping from the car or hiking in to a spot will make a difference. You’ll need winter sleeping bags (you might be able to find ones that can be zipped together, left zip on one, right zip on the other). Ground mats for under the sleeping bags, to keep you off the ground. Portable stove (on the plus side snow is water so if there’s snow around you don’t have to lug water) but you will need plenty of fuel, figure 1 qt/day for the two of you if you’re melting snow, not sure how much if you’re taking propane. A good quality tent, that’s made to take heavy wind, snow, etc, with a vestibule and fly. There’s no foliage in winter to protect you from the elements and this also gives you room to work, I’d suggest a 3 man tent to be roomy enough especially for dressing. Pack plenty of clothes, dress in layers, synthetics and wools NO COTTON. There’s a saying, “COTTON KILLS” this is because if cotton gets wet it loses almost all of it’s insulating value. If you’re hiking a BIG back pack in the 3-4000 cubic inch range for 3-4 days, funny thing is, extra days only add extra clothes and food, so to go to a 6 day trip, you can still use same pack the main thing is the all the gear you need for basics
If you’re not sure about this, I’d suggest start with a trip to a bed and breakfast in the Catskills, for a weekend, do some day hiking, see how you like it. You’ll have the clothes after this, then next step, there are some nice places both in the catskills and in the pocono’s where they have year round campgrounds, you park, you have electric at site, no water in winter, but a common shower area, and running water there, if you don’t like it, the car is right there. third trip, you can do a hike. At each stage in this progression you’ll add to the equipment you’ll have so you don’t shell out for it all at once and then find out you don’t like it.
