In the Korea travel section, who do you prefer to have answer your questions?

By

1) Native Koreans living in Korea
2) Foreigners living in Korea
3) Native Koreans living outside of Korea
4) Anyone else (foreigners living outside of Korea)

For me, the people I want answering are 1 and 2 (possibly 3 if the answerer hasn’t been outside of Korea very long). The reason is simple: if you’re not in Korea, you don’t know. Korea is changing constantly so recycling knowledge from travel guides and web sites isn’t always accurate. However, I do believe that anyone should be able to contribute.

Would you really want a foreigner in New York telling you everything you ever wanted to know about living in Korea? Not me.

Well, those are my thoughts. What about you?

You make a good point about asking questions. For me it depends on the question. Sometimes if i would like an insight on Korean culture then I want Koreans to answer it. Sometimes I want a foreigner to express their experiences about Korea.

I don’t mind those living outside Korea to answer questions. However, I do mind when they express harsh opinions to situations they do not understand. Sometimes you need to be here to grasp a clear picture of the situation at hand. Sometimes Koreans outside Korea find if difficult to realize that there are tensions between the foreigners and the locals, which is usally a clash between cultural idologies.

Yeah, I agree with Chachee mostly…
Most of the time, I want foreigners within Korea to answer me because I am looking for a specific type of food/restaurant or store or doctor, and they understand what I am talking about.
However, I am very interested in the opinion of anyone with ideas.
Sometimes I feel that people are using their Korea questions to “discover” how each culture “feels ” or thinks about each other. I am not interested in that and think it is a waste of time. People get defensive and offended. This section is best used as an exchange of travel and living tips within Korea.
just my opinion.

Also, I agree that answers from people , Korean or NOT, living OUTSIDE of Korea are often useless. Korea changes too quickly. Even cultural norms and ideas. I specifically notice a huge gulf, ideologically, between Koreans living outside of the country vs. within.

I think the best person to answer questions on this forum is…Max Power.
