income for a 14 year old.?
I am 14 and I don’t get allowance. I really would like to start earning my own money. I can’t get a job because I am not 16. Their is nobody in my neighorhood needing a babysitter. And almost everyone I know is short on cash. I don’t want to take my moms money. She needs it all to pay bills and put food on the table. However the only cash I do get is for holidays and it’s not nearly enough to help cover everything I need. I am trying to save up money for food, college, and a used vehicle. I figured that I would like some extra money also for recreational activities. Any help here? I have wanted to start my own business for about 2 years now but I don’t know where to start. Thanks ![]()
In Michigan you have to be 16 years old to get a job. Unless I work under the table which would be breaking the law and I don’t want to break the law.

you are old enough to get a job i know kids that work at mcdonalds and the keg
In all honesty, unless that business of yours you want to start is a babysitting business, no one will take you seriously. Starting a serious business requires the college background to back it up, and the business management to monitor finances. I would recommend getting an application at either McDonald’s or Burger King. You can start there at 14 doing dishes. $8.00/hour can’t do you wrong. Ask around at a local cafe as well. They might be looking for someone to help with dishwashers. Good luck.
Don’t worry about getting a job yet. I started doing filing work at my aunts insurance agency when I was 13 which led to a receptionist job there when I was 15. I haven’t stopped working since. Enjoy your childhood, you’ll miss it when it’s gone.
You can actually get a job if you have working permit but not all places will hire you. I do not know what the regulations might be for your location but where I live, you just need a working permit if you are under 16. You are a little young for starting your own business but if you are into some sort of craft like making necklaces or bracelets, you could actually make a profit selling them to fellow classmates at school. Also, if you play an instrument or sing, go to a local grocery store and show your talent on the sidewalk (be sure to put a can or jar out for tips! ). Or another way to use your classmates, is to buy candy bars in bulk from stores like Costco or Sam’s club and sell them at school!
find a gap in a market, make it your business to fill that gap. thats how i made my first £1000,000. invest your profit with me via paypal…. everyone happy lol
My answer should help you get a lil bit of cash.
This forum has a list of free 1 year subscriptions to some very popular magazines that people buy at the store for $5.95.

What you can do is charge your neigbors $10 for a year subscription to a magazine of their choice. (Make a list of available magazines from the website that are free and show that list to them).
For example.. many teenagers (male) love the Maxim magazine.
Heres a link for the free year subscription

(just bs the part where it says, “what type of business are you in” and “what is your job function”)
Charge your friends $10 for a year subscription (just dont tell them youre getting it free though)
Another example:
Many older adults read “Forbes Magazine”
Ask your older neighbors if they want a subscription
Heres the link.

You remind me of myself 10 years ago. I was a money seeker, when I was 14 I worked for $5/hr for picking trash at the park every saturday and sunday. At 19, I became an entrepreneur regarding with business telecommunications. Ive been in college for 6 years studying business and engineering and finally getting my BS this spring in Electrical Engineering. I am now 25. Make sure you watch the movie “Pursuit of Happiness”, it will motivate you to make money.
TRY CRAIGSLIST. SOMETIMES THEY HAVE ODD JOBS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD.. LIKE MOWING LAWNS, PET SITTING, CLEANING UP AND STUFF. BE SAFE THOUGH!!!
i agree with what others said:
selling candy bars made me a lot of money when i was younger
mcdonalds or chik fil a will probably hire you
a grocery store will hire you most likely!! you can bag groceries young. and you don’t make an hourly wage usually you just get tips but those kids make pretty good money considering.
if you’re serious about saving up for college and a car, and not just having extra cash, have your mom take you to the bank or credit union to set up a savings that will gain you interest over the years, and put in a little bit of each of the money you earn
also, put your babysitting info out at a public place like the grocery store bulletin board or somewhere like that, leave pull strips with your number on it, and then if you get a call, make sure you and your mom meet the person ahead of time together to establish safety and ground rules.
last thing i can think of is to get some sort of container you won’t open for awhile.. i’d say have a box[shoebox?] and also a jar.
put a dollar in the box each day, and if you don’t have a dollar or are running low some day, just put in some coins in the jar.
then towards the end of the year you can count & cash it all in,deposit to your account or use it to buy something you want or need, etc.
good luck i know the feeling! ive been there.. its not long til you’re old enough
